- Paul J. Carney,77, Topeka, passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2006 at Midland Hospice House.
Paul was born January 18, 1929 in Junction City, the son of Jesse M. and Pauline J. (Strauss) Carney.
Paul married Mary Lou Scucchi on April 15, 1950 in Topeka.
He was employed as a painter at Goodyear, retiring in 1988. Following retirement, they moved to Las Vegas where he was a member of the Lamb of God Lutheran Church and sang in the men's choir. They returned to Topeka in 2002. Paul was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and active in choir.
Survivors include his wife of the home; their children, Steven Carney, Danville, Virginia, Sharon Haigh, Manhattan, Diana Arnold, John Carney, Daryl Carney and Janet Whitaker, all of Topeka; brothers, James Carney, Champagne, Illinois, Ted Carney, Topeka; a sister, Evelyn Costigan, Olathe; 14 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Carney, and brother-in-law, Lloyd Costigan.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 1, 2006 at Faith Lutheran Church. Mr. Carney will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel after 2:00 p.m. on Sunday and visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Burial will be in Penwell-Gabel's Memorial Park Cemetery.
