    Notes:

Richard Walser in his book, "Jeremiah Adderton and Some of His Descendants" tells the story of a teenaged Rebecca Travers who leaves Charles County, Maryland and runs off with Jere Adderton, a widower with 5 children. Jere first married Ann Price (ca 1747) and had the 5 children mentioned above. He decides to move south and Rebecca is determined to leave with him. They traveled down the Potomac River to Virginia and then to Orange County, North Carolina and on to the banks of the Yadkin River in lower Rowan County, North Carolina.

If Rebecca Travers was born in 1758, was she the mother of Jeremiah (b. 1767): John (b. 1770) and William (b. 1772)? Was Ann Price the mother of these sons?

Rebecca remarried in 5 April 1779 to James Daniels (who died 11 Feb 1817, Rowan, NC). They had 9 more children. Children by Daniels are: Travis Daniel, Woodson, Elizabeth, James, Mary Polly, Rebecca, Nancy, Jayhus and Poindexter?

Jeremia married Ann Price LUCKETT on 4 Oct 1738 in Charles, Maryland, British Colonial America. Mary Neal was the first and only daughter of James Neale Jr. and Elizabeth Calvert. James Neale of Wollaston Manor, Charles County, was the eldest son of Captain James Neale and Anne Gill, daughter of Benjamin Gill (deceased before 1881), his wife. Elizabeth Calvert, born 20 December 1664, was the daughter of Col. William Calvert and Elizabeth Stone. The Calverts were influential in the colonial government of Maryland. Elizabeth's father William was secretary of Maryland and her grand father was the first colonial governor, Gov. Leonard Calvert. Elizabeth was the first wife of James Neale of Wollaston Manor, Charles County, was the eldest son of Captain James Neale and Anne Gill, daughter of Benjamin Gill (deceased before 1881), his wife. William and Elizabeth married 20 December 1681, had one child, Mary (b. 1882) and Elizabeth's life was cut short when she died at 20 years old on 17 May 1684.

Mary Neale was unlucky in marriage. Mary was married four times in 24 years. She married her fist husband, Charles Egerton on 10 March 1702. Next she married Jeremiah Adderton, about 1706 to 1708, Jeremiah died in 1713. Then she married Joseph Van Swearingen by about 1715 and was widowed and remarried to William Deacon before her father's death in October 1727. Notes:

SAMUEL LUCKETT was born Abt. 1650 in Kent County, England, and died July 18, 1705 in Port Tobacco, MD. He DID NOT marry ELIZABETH HUSSEY 1684, daughter of THOMAS HUSSEY and Johanna Porter. She was born 1667 one year before Sarah Hines Luckett was born... so those insisting on that lineage - it is doubtfull...

Evidence suggests he married Mary Elizabeth Gardiner born 1643 first, but we still need further confirmation... THEN, he married Elizabeth Hussey 2nd and had four boys mentioned below.

Samuel settled in Maryland before 1678.

Samuel was a member of the Maryland Provincial Court during 1696, he signed a Petition to the King as a member of the Provincial Court and as a Civil Officer of Charles County. Since Catholics could not hold public office indicates that he was a member of the Church of England.

At the Prerogative Court held in Charles County during 1684, "Appeared Samuel Luckett of Charles County who intermarried with the relict and administrator of John Gardiner and showeth that he never intermeddled with goods". Here proof exists of his marriage to the widow, and also for the belief that he had interfered with the estate of her deceased husband. (Harry Wright Newman)

When Samuel died his estate was valued at 829 pounds, 13 shillings, 3 pence and included 7 white indentured servants but no slaves.

Luckett and Hussey Research in Port Tobacco

His four sons were William, Samuel, Thomas Hussey, and Thomas. No known justification is apparent for the first name--William. Samuel was his namesake, while Thomas Hussey was the full name of his father-in-law. But the fact that he named his youngest son Thomas Hussey when one was already baptized Thomas is important. In those days the naming of children was significant and they were not given because they met with the fancy of the parents. One son was most assuredly named after the paternal grandfather, and it is not believed to be William. It was most likely Thomas, a name common to the Lucketts of County Kent, England.

    2. Thomas Luckett married Sarah (Boone). q.v.
    3. Ignatius Luckett married Jane (Hanson). q.v.

    Biography
    2nd wife of Samuel Luckett;
Elizabeth (Porter) Hussey was born in 1667[1] in Port Tobacco, Maryland, to Johanna (Joan) Porter - HUSSEY, age 35, and Thomas Hussey, age 32. (Although Thomas Hussey entered the Province as an indenture, he was styled Gent.)

Shortly after November 24, 1683, Samuel Luckett, of Port Tobacco, married the young and childless widow of John Gardiner - a scion of an early and prominent Roman Catholic family.

Elizabeth HUSSEY was the daughter and co-heiress of Thomas Hussey, Gent., and his second wife Johanna.

Her late husband Thomas willed land for his wife as "Smoots Chance"

Elizabeth lost but little time in acquiring a third husband, and by November 6, 1705, she had married John Hanson. On that date, the latter, his wife Elizabeth, and Samuel Luckett "executors of Samuel Luckett, deceased" rendered an account to the Perogative Court. At the 1704 fall session of the County Court the grand jury, with John Beale as foreman, indicted Nicholas Gulick, a Romanist priest, for "marrying John Hanson and the widow Luckett contrary to the Law". Likewise, John Hanson and Elizabeth his wife were indicted "for being and suffering the ... to marry".

Elizabeth died in Charles County Maryland in 1747.[1]

(The first husband of Elizabeth Hussy was a member of a staunch Roman Catholic family, but Samuel Luckett was not and furthermore was not converted to her faith, yet there is every evidence that her four Luckett sons were all raised under the Catholic banner. Her third husband was of a family as staunch in support of the Church of England as the Gardiners were or Rome, yet one sees a scion being married by a Roman priest. And their four Hanson children were raised under the dogma of Rome. )
