BIOGRAPHY: The Parke Family are not Irish but of Saxon-Scotch origin. In 1611 James I began the experiment of sending from Scotland a Presbyterian company of picked men and women of the best sort, of a far higher level of intelligence and training than the native peasantry of Ireland, in order that they might outnumber and control the Catholics. About the 1720 the decendents of these immigrants began coming in great numbers to America, being dissatisfied with their Irish home on account of excessive taxes and rents. In 1720 our branch of the Parke family consisted of brothers William, Arthur, Samuel, David and sister Jane Parke. Jane Parke was not married and lived with her brother Arthur Parke. Arthur and wife Mary Parke, sons, Joseph, John, Samuel and daughter Margaret and Arthur's sister Jane and brothers David and Samuel with their families removed to Fallowfield Township, Chester Co. PA. BIOGRAPHY: The Parke name was originally spelled Park. BIOGRAPHY: It is said that Arthur Parke was an elder in a Presbyterian Church in Ireland and with his kindred who came over with him formed the nucleus for the Upper Octoraro Ch urch. BIOGRAPHY: Will:Arthur Parke in his will devised his land to his two sons, Joseph and John Parke, subject to payment of legacies to the other heirs. The two sons divided the land between them, Joseph taking the southern part, (250 Acres), with the improvements, entailed by a lifetime residence there of his mother and Aunt Jane. John took the northern part (300 acres) without improvements of much value.
