    2nd Born.
Came to America when 15 years old (March 1913) and went to live with cousins near Chicago sometime after his mother died in 1904. Living in 1917 at 7018 Justine, Chicago, Illinois.
Came from Pinkamiske, Vas, Hungary that was later known as Mischendorf, Burgenland, Austria after World War I (1917). Area comprises Germanic, Croatian and Hungarian heritages in area commonly known as Burgenland, Austria. Past Wehofers were known prior to 1850's as Vehhofers, but common spelling uniformly changed to Wehofer over 20-30 years, in nearly all families. Generations of Wehofers have spread over a relatively small area, with the highest concentrations in descending order: Wien (Vienna) Austria (30%), Mischendorf (6%), Rust (5%), Yspertac (3%), Tadten (3%), and so forth to lesser concentrations.

Paul is an Americanised name spelling (originally Pal in Hungarian), upon coming to the USA. Paul married Clara and they operated a small limited bakery in the Chicago area for a few years during the wartime 40's. When they moved the family to Alpena, they started a larger bakery, bought lake front property at Hubbard Lake, bought a house and set up their oldest sons in the family business. Differences of opinion and relationship issues separated most of the older children from close ties to their parents, Paul and Clara and full reconciliation was never fully realized. SS# 375-34-0880

Entry to Ellis Island, New York: Paul Wehoffer (SP!) arrived April 28, 1913 at age 16 from Pinkamilka Ungary (all their spelling not mine), ethnicity: Ungarn (Hungarian) German. I have copy of Pal Wehofer Hungarian Birth Registration from where registered on 12 May 1897 in Pinka-Miske. Details match recollections of William and Joyce Wehofer which leads to further varification of details through the Catholic Church records of his father Franz and his mother Aloisia.

Meanwhile, back in Hungary the year after Pal emigrated to the US, World War I happened.

Main articles: Austro-Hungarian entry into World War I and Hungary in World War I

After the assassination of the Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand in Sarajevo on 28 June 1914, a series of crises escalated quickly. A general war began on 28 July with a declaration of war on Serbia by Austria-Hungary.[45]

Austria-Hungary drafted 9 million soldiers in World War I, of which 4 million were from the kingdom of Hungary. During the First World War, Austria-Hungary fought on the side of Germany, Bulgaria and Ottoman Empire? the so-called Central Powers. They conquered Serbia easily, and Romania declared war. The Central Powers then conquered Southern Romania and the Romanian capital of Bucharest. In November 1916, Emperor Franz Joseph died; the new monarch, Emperor Charles I of Austria (IV. K?roly), sympathized with the pacifists in his realm.

INJURY TO HEAD PROVES FATAL. YOUNG FARMER SUCCUMBS TO BLOOD POISONING FOLLOWING SLIGHT ACCIDENT. Carl Bock, of Henry township, aged 37, died at a local hospital in this city Thursday night. Death was due to blood poisoning caused by an accident which befell Mr. Bock, the week previous to his death. Mr. Bock sustained a cut on his head when he fell against the radiator of his car in attempting to crank the machine. As he was manipulating the crank, his foot slipped, and he was thrown forward, his head striking the machine with considerable force. A severe wound was inflicted in the region of the eye. The wound soon developed blood poisoning and he was brought to a hospital in Le Mars. His condition was serious from the first, but his condition showed signs of mending for a time and hopes were entertained for his ultimate recovery. A relapse ensued and the result was fatal.
Carl Bock was born in Plymouth county January 1, 1887, and lived here all his life. He was a hardworking and industrious citizen and well liked in the community. His death is mourned by his wife and son and a large number of relatives and friends. The body was shipped from here to Remsen where the funeral was held. ? Remsen people and vicinity were sorely grieved Friday morning when the announcement was circulated of the death of Carl Bock, who died in a Le Mars hospital, of blood poisoning. About a week ago Mr. Bock was taken to the hospital, suffering from a severe case of blood poisoning, sustained a few days previous while cranking a car. He received the cut over his eye when he fell against the radiator of the machine. His condition while at the hospital grew steadily worse, and physicians could not check the poison, when erysipelas set in and pneumonia later. Those who mourn his sudden death are his wife and two small children, also his aged parents who reside at Gladbrook, Ia., and one brother, Emil. The deceased was 40 years of age. The funeral was held Saturday, from the St. Paul's church, under the auspices of the Pieper post, American legion, of which Mr. Bock was a member. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. A. H. Juergons. ? Le Mars Globe Post, Thursday, March 27, 1924, page 3.
