    Son of Nathaniel Baily I (1675-1740) and Leah DeVoue (1691-aft. 1740).

    Fieldstone grave marker with cross, typical of stones that surround the foundation of the former North Salem Meeting House of The Religous Society of Friends (Quakers). No stones of this generation of Meeting House founders, including Levi Bailey, have names that are visible or legible today (if ever).     Confusion warning
    Two different men were previously conflated in this profile, and the confusion could recur. One, the younger Nathan Bailey, profiled here, was the son of Nicholas and Margaret Bailey. He was born about 1660 in Westchester village, and married as his only wife Esther Caniff, daughter of Jeremiah, who outlived him and remarried in 1718. They removed from the borough town of Westchester a dozen miles north to Tarrytown and joined the old Dutch Church at Sleepy Hollow.

    The other Nathan Bailey previously conflated here was the younger man's uncle, Nathan, born about 1642, likely in the New Haven Colony but possibly in England, to Nicholas Bayley and his wife. That other Nathan Bayley married, first, ______, perhaps Margaret _____ ( they had at least one child, Nathaniel, born perhaps 1675,) then secondly Mary Squire.

    Nathan married Mary SQUIRE about 1687 in Westchester, Westchester, Colony of New York, British Colonial America.     Biography
    Nicholas was born about 1636 in England. He is the son of Nicholas Bailey.

    He served as a magistrate in 1660 and 1662 in Westchester Co., New York. He came to be called 'Judge Bailey'.

    He was a Patentee on 15 Feb 1667.

    On 20 Jan 1684, Nicholas Bayly of Westchester and Margaret his wife transferred land on ffrogs Neck to son John.

    On 19 October 1689, Nicholas ceded his properties to his son John, on condition that " he keep and maintain said father and mother during life."

    Nicholas died before 1698, when his widow was recorded in a census as living with her son John.

    Nicholas and his wife Margaret (some say her last name was Anderson) had, in Rye or Westchester:

    He's probably the "Nick Baly" who took the oath of fidelity at New Haven, Conn. July 1, 1644.
    He and his wife Margaret were living in Westchester before Aug. 4, 1659. He was a magistrate in 1660 and 1662. He received land in the second division in 1666 and is listed a patentee Jan. 1, 1686. On Mar. 4, 1689 he deeded to his son Nathan his holdings in the Long Beach Patent in Eastchester, and on March 5th he and his wife deeded their house and all land in Westchester to James and Abiah Riley of Queens County, in return for a bond of the latter to care for them during their life time. Witnesses for this deed were his younger cousins Elias and Jonathan Bailey, sons of John Bailey of Jamaica, RI. On Sept. 25th James and Abiah surrendered the deed and on Oct. 19th the property was deeded to John (their son) "he to keep and maintain said father and mother during life". Nicholas died before 1698 when his widow was living with her son John.
