    Notes:

Edward Dorsey was a planter, merchant, and contractor in colonial Maryland. He was likely born in Lower Norfolk, Virginia around 1643. Edward was the oldest son of Edward Dorsey (?-1659), who immigrated from Middlesex, England, and who was in his later years a Quaker. Edward the younger immigrated with his parents and siblings from Virginia to Maryland in 1649.

He married, first, Sarah Wyatt around 1670; and second, Margaret Larkin, who later married John Isaac aka Israel.

Edward served in the lower house of the Maryland colonial legislature, first as a representative of Anne Arundel County 1694-1697, and later for Baltimore County 1701-1705, dying in office. He was also a county justice in both Anne Arundel and Baltimore, and chancery judge.

His strong support of Lord Baltimore in 1689 brought his dismissal from his justiceship and militia commission after the overthrow of the proprietary government; he testified against the Protestant Associators in England on 1690. He was accused of being a Jacobite in 1692.

The probate of Edward's will indicates that at the time of his death he held over 1,247 acres, enslaved 13 persons and held 2 indentured servants.

The Dorsey DNA project has shown that the first Edward Dorsey was from Ireland, and that Colonel Dorsey was his son. They probably did have Jacobite leanings but enough political savvy to keep their money! Another error above is about wife Margaret Larkin, daughter of another wealthy planter, John Larkin. Edward bought out her brothers' share of Father's estate.

Edward married Margaret LARKIN about 1692 in Maryland. Margaret (daughter of John LARKIN and Katherine HOLLAND) was born in 1650 in Anne Arundel, Maryland, British Colonial America; died in 1707 in Maryland, British Colonial America; was buried in 1707 in Virginia, British Colonial America.
