    A letter from Miss Betty Johnson, Mexia. Texas says William Scott Compton was her grandfather, and he was born and reared in Nashville, Tenn. came to Texas from Decatur, Ala. in 1850. He had at least two brothers? Felix and Henry and sister Elizabeth md. IBackman. William Scott md. Angelina Louisa Ward ( McLinn).

    Loulie Compton born in Davidson Co., Tenn. and died June 30th. 1912.
    She was the daughter of Felix and Emily Green (Webster) Compton.
    Felix was a son of William and Susannah Mullen Compton? William Was a pioneer settler of Nashville, served as an officer under Andrew Jackson in the War of 1812.

    The traditional record of this family says the Comptons came from England to Culpepper Co., Va.
    Loulie received the Ph. D. and D. D. degrees, taught in Kidd-Key, Sherman, Texas, in 1886, and later was head of the English Department of Ward Seminary, Nashville, Tenn. In 1897 Miss Loulie Compton and Miss Hattie Morton founded a seminary at Birmingham, Ala., and since her death it has been named Loulie Compton Seminary. (History and Dictionary of Ala. Biography).

    He married Charity Leiper (b. before 1753, d. after 1767) before 1768. Children:

    At age 10 he went to KY with Captain John Gordon. He was a soldier for 7 years under General Mad Anthony Wayne. He came to Nashville, TN, about 1782 and rented land from Captain John Raines. He was a farmer. He m. 7 Dec 1799, Davidson Co, TN, to Susan Mullen (b. 17 Oct 1776, NC, d. 27 Jul 1860, probably Davidson Co, TN). They had 7 ch.
