    Notes:

    Edgartown was first settled in 1641/2 and called "Great Harbor" until 1671, when it was established as the Town of Edgartown. Edgartown includes the island community of Chappaquiddick.

    Records on Joseph Covell can be found in Chatham, Woburn and Charleston, Massachusetts. On 5 Nov 1714, he was granted 150 acres of land in Killingly Connecticut. On 6 Dec 1714, Joseph and his wife Alice deeded two pieces of this land to their son Joseph Jr. "in consideration of the love and good will that I have and bare (sic) my son Joseph Covell Jr. of Killingly."

    A series of quit-claim deeds passed land down to Stephen Covell and by 25 June 1733, Alice Covell, the widow of Joseph Sr., gave up all her dower rights. The inventory of Joseph Sr.?s estate was dated in April of 1733 and was valued at 947 pounds, 16 shillings, 6 pence. The house and barn was noted as Stephen's property.
