    Notes:

    An obituary from the October 18, 1888 Junction City Tribune and the cemetery records for him, show that Johann Strauss died of Typhoid Fever at the age of 56 years on Friday, October 12, 1888. He was buried in Highland Cemetery in Junction City the following day, Saturday, October 13 at 4:00pm.

    Possible Immigration on the ship ELBE on 28 Nov 1885, born in 1832, age 53. Departed from Bremen Germany arriving into New York.

    Came to America with 3 children and wife Maria. Johann died less than 3 years later. Maria Strauss then remarried and had 3 more children with Christian Jacob.

    Johann married Maria FECHTER on 20 Apr 1862 in Prussia. Maria was born on 11 May 1832 in Ostpreussen, East Prussia, Poland; died on 31 Oct 1907 in Geary County, Kansas. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Arrived at age 53 on ship Elbe, 28 Nov 1885 from Bremen to NY, with Husband Johann and 3 children in their 20's

    Johann Strauss her husband died less than 3 years after arrival.

    Maria Fechter Strauss then married Jacob and had a further 3 children.

    Notes:

    Found in 1880 Census with Matching Children - living with Frederick and Grandchildren (even Charlie Jacob just born in March 1880 and was 2 months old at time of Census). Census, however - reports birth as 1813, and was aged 67 at time of census. Information from Eva Zimmer says he was born 1805 - however; birthdates in various census and notes put birthdate at anywhere from 1803 t o1813.

    Also found in 1875 Census, Gottfried age 73 Elizabeth 70 and dau Mary age 30 and son Fred age 28
