ARTICLE ON MARILLA IN THE DEC. 1989 OF "THE CARNEY CHRONICLES" SAYS THAT MARILLA WAS THE 3RD CHILD AND 1ST DAUGHTER OF JOSHUA AND SINA. THE ARTICLE GOES ON FARTHER TO SAY THAT THE 1ST OF HER HALF-SIBLINGS WAS BORN ABT 1845 BUT I DO NOT HAVE DATA ON THAT CHILD. SEE MESSAGE LINE FOR SON, WILLIAM FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON MANILLA. MANILLA LIKED TO TELL HER CHILDREN THIS STORY: IT TOOK PLACE AFTER THE CIVIL WAR WHEN THE SLAVES HAD BEEN FREED AND SOME OF THEM HAD NO PLACE TO GO. HER BROTHERS AND SOME OF THEIR CARNEY COUSINS LIKED TO GET TOGETHER IN THE EVENING AFTER THE CHORES WERE DONE. A CEMETERY LAY BETWEEN THE TWO FARMS. ONE EVENING, WHEN HER BROTHERS KNEW THE COUSINS WERE ON THEIR WAY, THEY WENT TO THE CEMETERY AND LAID DOWN IN ONE OF THE SUNKEN GRAVES. AS THE COUSINS HURRIED PAST THEM, ;THE BROTHERS ROSE UP OUT OF THE GRAVE BLOWING A TIN HORN. A FREED SLAVE WHO HAD SOUGHT REFUGE IN A NEARBY SUNKEN GRAVE ROSE UP AND SAID, "AIN'T NO NEED TO BLOW NO HORN, MASSA! HERE AH IS."

    From Robert Carney:
It is accepted by some that the son (of Henry and Anny) born in 1810 was named Elijah (Eli), and that the daughter born between 1810-1815 was Sina Paralee; rationale:
    1. Their ages match the ages in the 1840 census.
    2. Joshua Carney bought land from Eli Binkley on Big Marrowbone Creek in 1842 - this was only a short distance from Sycamore Village where the Adam Binkley family had settled.
    3. It was a German custom to name the oldest son after the mother's father - Sina's two oldest sons, twins born in 1835, were named Henry and Elijah.
    4. On the 1840 census, Eli Binkley is a neighbor to all the Marrowbone Carneys.
The son born between 1815 and 1820 has been identified by some as Hiram Henry Binkley who was born about 1815, married Nancy Morris 16 April 1836, and died 4 June 1860.
It is suspected that the daughter born in 1810 was Mary Binkley who was born 1 April 1810 and married to Moses Dean in Davidson County, TN on 27 October 1827; she named her second son Henry, probably after her father.
