MILITARY: Soldier in the Revolutionary War, Pvt NC, Private in Capt. John Johnston?s Company, Col. John Collier?s Regiment, under the command of Brig. Gen. John Butler; was discharged 22 Dec 1780. The story is told that Jacob said that when he got out of the army he had nothing in the world but a blue jug. 1768 Lodwick Redwine was on the tax list of Granville Co., NC as shown in tithables taken by Robert Harris. He paid two polls which included son Jacob Redwine shown. The law at the time in NC set the white male poll at ages 16 and upward.
Jacob would have reached age 16 in October 1767.
1772 - NC, Granville Co., 22 Feb 1772 Lewis RIETHWEIL (signed in German Ludwig) wrote his will in Granville County naming sons Lewis, Michael, Jacob, John, and daughter Margaret Peeler, wife of Michael Peeler. The youngest son, John, was underage at that time. His wish was that son John was to serve his brother Jacob but for one year, then to be declared free.
Obviously, the son named John who was underage in 1772 was not the same Johannes who was baptized 5 May 1737. It is most likely the first son named Johannes had died (perhaps before leaving Germany, or on board ship, or after arrival in America) and the same name was given to another son born later. That was not an unusual custom and happened often. In Mittelberger's diary, he said there were no less than 32 died on the 'Osgood.'
1777 - NC, 25 Jan 1777 Jacob Reitweil and John Rietwel of Granville County sold 233 acres eastward of Michael Peelers on a branch of Shelton's Creek, being part of a large survey taken up by William Meadows and adjoining Slaughter. Proved in

    Notes:

    Biography
The earliest document record of a Nathaniel Parker being the father of Susannah (Parker) Daughhetee and the Elder John Parker is from page 16 of the 1934 book The History of the Daughhetee's. It's unknown whether the above referenced confusion of the Nathaniel Parker of Sumner Co. TN. as the father was already occurring. If so, then Nathaniel Parker as the father may be a red herring and the early Baltimore County, MD. records need to be searched for the parents of the Elder John Parker, Daniel Parker, Susannah (Parker) Daughhetee, Arron Parker.....

Per the Elder John Parker's 1833 Coles Co., IL Revolutionary War pension application he was born 6 Sept 1758 in Baltimore Co., MD., so his mother and father were residing in Baltimore Co., MD as of 1758. By 1777 the family of the Elder John Parker was residing in Culpeper Co., VA. when he served his first 12 months in his revolutionary war militia unit, and another 12 month tour in 1779. The Elder John Parker's eldest son Daniel Parker was born 5 Apr. 1781 in Culpeper Co., VA. per a biography referenced below. Culpeper Co., VA. (#5 on 1751 map) is roughly 125 miles from Patterson Creek, Ft. Ashby, Hampshire Co., VA. (#6 on 1751 map) where the Nathaniel Parker and his father John Parker of Parker yDNA FG#18 were concurrently living. Roughly three days of traveling by a horse each way.

Per the University of Tennessee yDNA website for Parker yDNA Family Group #5 the oldest known ancestor was Elisha Parker born 1630 England, died 1717 Woodbridge, Middlesex County, N.J. (#1 on 1751 map) Then in the next county south is a Thomas Parker born 1737 Freehold, Monmouth Co., N.J. and died in 1832 Freehold, Monmouth Co., N.J. There's also George Parker who died in Worcestor (now Wicomico) Co., MD (#2 on 1751 map) in 1770 in southeast Maryland. The distance from Middlesex Co., N.J. to Worcestor Co., MD. may mean that these were two separate points of emigration for Parker yDNA FG#5 into the colonies. Given the proximity of Middlesex Co., N.J. (#1 on map) to Philadelphia, PA (#3 on 1751 map) and the Great Wagon Road west to Baltimore Co., MD.(#4 on 1751 map), the Middlesex Co., N.J. Parker's may be the origin point to the colonies for the Elder John Parker and his siblings ancestors.

Per the Elder John Parker's pension application, he resided in Culpeper Co., VA. (#5 on 1751 map) as of the time he entered Revolutionary War service. The Elder John Parker's son Daniel Parker, Daniel was born in 1781 Culpeper Co., VA, migrated with his parents to Elbert Co. GA. in 1785. then to Franklin Co., Georgia where Daniel Parker was baptized, then in June 1803 started the trek to Turnbull Creek, Dickson Co., TN. The Elder John Parker's brother Daniel Parker also migrated from Georgia to Dickson Co. TN and was the first preacher at the Turnbull Primitive Baptist Church in 1806.

    Birth

It's unproven if the Elder John Parker's father Nathaniel Parker was ever in Hampshire County, VA. (#6 on 1751 map).

The 1730 and 1803 dates found in most family trees for the Elder John Parker's father Nathaniel Parker were taken from Jay Guy Cisco's 1909 Book 'Historic Sumner County, TN. but those dates apply to Nathaniel Parker (1724-1811) commonly stated to have been born 1730 and died 1803 in Cisco's book of Parker yDNA Family Group #18 who was previously merged with the Nathaniel Parker who may have married Ann Clayton as stated in this profile.

If the 1934 'The Daughhetee Family of Estill County, Kentucky' is correct in that Susannah (Parker) Daughhetee's father was a Nathaniel Parker, and if the Elder John Parker's father migrated to Baltimore County, MD. from the Middlesex County, N.J. area, then research should focus there. See Parker Heritage discussion.

    Marriage

There is a 1919 Daughters of the American Revolution Magazine, Vol. 53, R.R. Bowker Company, page 575 query for a John Parker as the son of Nathaniel Parker and his wife, Ann Clayton, but it does not say he is the Elder John Parker. This query says she's supposed to be a daughter of John Clayton and Elizabeth Whiting of Gloucester Co., VA. John Clayton was born in England, 1685, and died in Gloucester Co., Va. 1773. He was an eminent botanist and had a botanical garden on his estate, which he called "Windsor". He married Elizabeth Whiting, 1723, and had several sons and daughters.

A 1924 DAR Lineages book on page 104 shows Nathaniel Parker and Ann Clayton were the parents of the John Parker born 17 Dec 1755 & died after 1801 of King & Queen County, VA. That John Parker had been listed by the DAR as the son of the Nathaniel Parker who migrated from Hampshire Co. VA. to Sumner Co. TN.., but that has been disproved, and the DAR states he is not this mans son. The Nathaniel Parker of Sumner County, TN's son John Parker 1765-1831 has been proved (2 sources) to have migrated to Shelby County, KY where he died in 1831.

Generally daughters married in the county that their parents lived in, so if that holds, then their daughter Ann Clayton married in Gloucester Co., VA. Gloucester Co. , VA is roughly 170 miles away from Baltimore Co. MD. where the Elder John Parker per his 1833 Coles County, IL. Revolutionary War pension application was born. This raises the question of whether two different Ann Claytons have been merged over time. One in Baltimore County, MD. and the other in Gloucester Co., VA.

    Children

Using Wikipedia's female fertility chart and Ann Clayton's estimated birth year of 1726, then she would have been able to bear children between 1744 and 1771. Any child associated with her after 1771 is statistically unlikely to be a child of Ann Clayton.

Children currently assigned to this Nathaniel Parker are:

01 Daniel Parker born 15 Mar 1750 (Baltimore Co., MD. ??); died bef. 6 Apr 1818 Dickson Co., TN.
02 Elder John Parker born 6 Sep 1758 Baltimore County, MD. per his 22 Oct 1833 Coles County, IL Revolutionary War Pension application. Died 6 Sep 1836 Fort Parker, TX.
03 Susannah Parker born btwn. 1762-64; died 1816 Estill County, KY.; married John Haughhetee, Estill County, KY. abt. 1781. Her first child, Rachel was born 12 July 1782. See the 1934 book The Daughhetee Family of Estill County, Kentucky.
04 Aaron Parker born by/before 1770 Baltimore Co. MD.; died 1833 Copiah County, Mississippi

Other children confused as to belong to Parker yDNA Family Group #5, but actually belong to other Parker yDNA Family Groups are:

01 Moses Parker born 26 Aug 1744; died 12 Nov 1830 Marlboro Co., S.C. belongs to Parker yDNA Family Group #7
02 Thomas Parker born 8 Jan 1757, died 18 Dec 1819 (will dated 1810) Sumner Co. TN.; married Juda Renfro. He belongs to Parker yDNA FG #15.
03 John Parker born abt. 1760 died 1825 Sumner Co. TN.; married Rhoda Renfro. He belongs to Parker yDNA FG#15.

And several of the children of Nathaniel Parker 1724-1811 of Parker yDNA FG#18 who died at Greenfield, Sumner Co., TN. with burial near the old Fort Morgan, specifically Susannah Parker 1765-1803 (married Charles Beeler), John Parker 1765-1831(married 1st Mary Rogers, 2nd Sarah Collier), Elizabeth Parker 1766-aft 1826 (married Michael Collier), Thomas Parker 1768-1846 (married Susan Rogers), Richard Parker 1770-1838 (married Nancy Rogers), Nathaniel Parker 1775-1857 (married 1st Sally Ramsey, 2nd Lucretia Penny), Isaac Parker 1776-1846 (married Agnes Bartlet), Mary Parker 1779-1828 (married William Thompson), Aaron Parker 1781-1804 and Robert Parker 1783-1870 (married Martha 'Patsy' Martin).

    Death

The only Will for a Nathaniel Parker in Sumner County, TN is the will of the Nathaniel Parker 1724-1811 in Parker yDNA Family Group #18 who died after June of 1811. The only other documents in the will/probate records section related to Nathaniel Parker is a 1790 Power of Attorney for the purchase of land, and a 1803 Bond record for Nathaniel Parker, Jr. 1775-1857 of Parker yDNA Family Group #18 to be a constable. This suggests that the Nathaniel Parker in Parker yDNA Family Group # 5 died elsewhere.

A search of the Georgia Archives 'Virtual Vault' finds no records for a Nathaniel Parker in their records, so if the Nathaniel Parker in this profile was the father of the Elder John Parker 1758-1836 and his siblings, he died before the migration to Georgia from Culpeper Co., VA., or he migrated elsewhere.

Nathaniel married Ann Marie CLAYTON about 1744 in Culpepper County, Virginia. Ann (daughter of John CLAYTON and Elizabeth Catherine WHITING) was born on 1 Jan 1726 in Glouchester County, Virginia; died in Jan 1790 in Hampshire County, Virginia. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Notes:

Apparently Ludwig Riedweil Sr. and Barbara Bchler had four children before they came to America: FHC film #247602
1 Johann Michael Riedweil chr. GR 22 Mar 1733
2 Johann Riedweil born GR 1 May 1737
3 Johann Ludwig Riedweil born GR 4 Dec 1740
4 Anna Margretha Riedweil born GR 18 Feb 1745
5 Jacob was born in America Oct. 1751
6 John was born in America abt 1756
The John B. 1756 is sometimes confused with the above metioned Johann B. 1737. Our best guess is that Johnannes B. 1737 either stayed in Germany or died before or during the trip to America.
the christening record of Maria Dorothea Grimm, daughter of Jacob and Magdalena Grimm in May 1729, it lists Johann Ludwig Riedweyl as an apprentice weaver, single, and son of Friedrich Riedweyl (Doc. #6). Also in christening record of his second child Johannes, Ludwig Sr. is listed as a yarn weaver, Doc.# 3 but elsewhere, as just a weaver.

I cannot translate "Ehel:" properly without my dictionary,
it means that they were born by a marriaed couple.
The faint cross over the record would indicate that somebody else noted later that the child died (soon?), that occurs rather often, together with a year. But I'm not sure about this, and the write put a question mark also.
The name RIEDWEIL is rather clear, except that in the
    signature it's RIDWEIL.
    My [Dr. Fisher] picture is:

Johann Ludwig = father, Barbara = mother
Johann Ludwig = son, born 4-Dec-1740, bapt. 8-Dec (this record)

1749 - In the summer of 1749, a man by the name of Landenberger of Ebingen, who made frequent trips between Germany and America, brought back favorable letters from Hans Balthass Bitzer and Matthaeus Mautte. According to a report in 1749 by Mayor Venninger of Lauffen, preserved at Ludwigsburg, the letters are said to have "made such an impression among different families, that they even now appear to be intent on leaving next Spring." This resulted in the large Lauffen emigration of 1750, including some on the ship "Osgood."
1750 - Germany, Pfalz, Bayern, Immigrant's surname: READWILE Immigrant's given name(s): Johann Ludwig
Ship name: Osgood U.S. arrival date: 29 SEP 1750
Port: Philadelphia, PA Place of origin: Res: Freckenfeld, Pfalz, Bayern, Germany late of Cowes Source: Thirty Thousand Names of Immigrants, by I. Daniel Rupp
1750 - PA, Philadelphia 29 Sept., The ship 'Osgood' arrived in Philadelphia from Rotterdam, last from Cowes; William Wilkie, Captain, listed 480 [ or 180 "not sure"] passengers. Ludwig Readwile and Joh. Michael Rietweill were among those passengers.
Ludwig RIETHWEIL and his family most likely were taken to the court house where he then made his mark on the Oath of Allegiance and qualified, as well as his son Michael who was able to sign his name. Since Michael was over the age of 16, he had to qualify. The other children were under the age of 16, so were not required to qualify. Michael signed his name Rietweill to the document. Ludwig did not sign the document, but made his mark "LRW" and the spelling of the surname as "Readwile" is most likely a phonetic one by the court clerk.
1760 - 15 Aug 1760 Lodwick REDWINE of Granville County, North Carolina, for fifty pounds proclamation money, purchased from William Meadows of Orange County, 233 acres located eastward of Michael Peeler's and on the branches of Shillons (now Shelton's) Creek. The land adjoined Slaughter and Matheas. Lodwick owned this land when he died as it is included in the inventory of his estate. Source: Granville Co NC Deed Book H, p 364 (per Martha Redwine)
1764 - Lodowick Redwine appeared on the Granville Co NC tax list. This is the first tax list he has been located in. He paid one poll. The list was made by Col. Harris.
1766 - Lodwick Redwine was listed on the tax list of Granville Co North Carolina. The list was made by John Thomas and the number of polls paid has been blurred and not readable.
1767 - Lodwick Redwine was on the tax list of Granville Co NC when he paid one poll.
1767 - NC Granville Co. deed book H (1765-1826) page, 364 Lodwick Redwine of Granville Co. records land deed August 15, 1767 from William Medows of Orange Co. NC.
1768 - Lodwick Redwine was on the tax list of Granville Co NC as shown in tithables taken by Robert Harris. He paid two polls which included son Jacob Redwine shown. The law at the time in North Carolina set the white male poll at ages 16 and upward. Jacob would have reached age 16 in October 1767.
1769 - Lodwick Reetwile appeared on the Granville Co NC tax list and paid two polls. Michael Redwine appeared same list. 1769 - NC, Granville Co., tax list Lodowick Redwine 2 whites.
1770 - Lodwick Redwine was on the Granville Co NC tax list, paying two polls.
1771 - Ludwick Redwine appeared on the Granville Co NC tax list and paid three polls. This would indicate the youngest son John had reached the age of 16 years.
1772 - 22 Feb On page, 329 Granville County Unregistered Wills Lewis RIETHWEIL (signed in German Ludwig) wrote his will in Granville County naming sons Lewis, Michael, Jacob, John, and daughter Margaret Peeler, wife of Michael Peeler. The youngest son, John, was underage at that time. His wish was that son John was to serve his brother Jacob but for one year, then to be declared free. as of 1785 The original will, is in the care of the Granville County clerk of the Superior Court. The Will was filed in 1772.

1772 - NC, Aug The inventory of Lodwick Redwine was recorded into Granville County Court in August 1772 which means he died between 22 Feb 1772 and Aug 1772. The inventory included the 233 acres of land he purchased in 1760. In this document, his name was shown with three different spellings, Lodwick Redwine; Lewis Riethweil; & Lodowick Redwine.
Obviously, the son named John who was underage in 1772 was not the same Johannes who was baptized 5 May 1737. In Mittelberger's diary, he said there were no less than 32 that died on the 'Osgood.' Freckenfeld belongs in the federal German state of Rheinland-Pfalz. Freckenfeld belongs to Kreis Germersheim, RegBez Rheinhessen-Pfalz, Land Rheinland-Pfalz The AGS is 07334005. The ZIP code is 76872
Following are some variations found while searching the name Redwine: Raedwine, Radewynde, Radewint, Radwin, Ritwell, Redewinus, Readwile, Rietweill, Redewinus, Redewyne, Redwin, Redwine, Redwile, Reedwine, Reetwhile, Reichwein, Reitweild, Reitweil, Rietwell, Ritwell, Riethweil. As the Palatine population grew in England, the Crown ordered a census made of these people. This inventory is preserved in the British Museum Library, London, England. It is from this inventory taken at Walworth, 27th of May, 1709, that we find Redwines. Lists of Germans from the Palatinate Who Came to England in 1709 are: Frederick Ritweil, age 32, wife, son age 2, Lutheran; and Jacob Ritweil, age 22, single, Lutheran. On Jan. 1710, a ship of Palatines sailed to America, arriving in Va. 13 weeks later. The Palatines were shipped across the Albermarle Sound to the Neuse River and placed on the south side of a point of land along the Trent River. There were also other ships coming to the Colonies during this great migration period of 1710- 1712, however, no document was found of Jacob and/or Frederick sailing to America. Other passengers on the ship "Osgood" included the following: From Lauffen were Ludwig Bitzer, Rudolph Christe, Jacob Koenig, Johann Matthias Spohn, Christian Stotz, Hans Balthass Stotz, Ludwig Stotz, and Johannes Wolfer. Hans Jerg Gutekunst was from Nagold. There was also a passenger by the name of Georg Becker who might possibly have been a relative of Barbara, wife of Johann Ludwig RIETHWEIL. There was a man named Johannes Seyl, but it is not known if this name might have been Seyler. If so, there might be a relationship to Peter Seyler whose son was baptized in 1755. Johann Michael Riethweil and his wife Christina were sponsors. Source 1: "Pennsylvania German Immigrants, 1709 - 1786"
"Probably most of you on the REDWINE list already have viewed the original Granville Co NC records, but it is interesting to see the different spellings in the same documents. I have some copies of original records of Granville Co NC which show the various spellings of the name.

I thought perhaps this might help to answer any doubts one might have. Seeing different spellings in the original document (and sometimes even different on the same page) should erase any doubt that Ludwig appears as Ludwig/Lodwick/Lodowick/Lewis and RIETHWEIL/REDWINE in the Granville Co NC records." Notes:

In the records of the second and fourth child it lists the mother's maiden name as Barbara Bchlin and Barbara Bechlerin, respectively (Doc.#3,5) . The -in wa3 a feminine suffix and is dropped, therefore her surname would have been "Ba-chler".
There were people by that name in the Freckenfeld records, but that was not searched at this time.
1737 - Germany Doc. # 13 Records of Lutheran Church, Freckenfeld Parish ( Bavarian - Pfalz ) Christenings 1722 - 1737 ( FHL film # 247602 ) On the 1st May (1737) in the evening, Johann Ludwig Riedweyler, Citizen and yarn weaver here, and wife Barbara, maiden name Bachlin, had a son born and on 5th May was officially Christened and named Johannes. Christening witnesses were: Johannes Helck, legitimate son of Johann Ludwig Helcken, citizen here.
It's interesting to note that almost undoubtedly Barbara Bchler was related to the Anthony Bieller-Buhler-Peeler family that I sent tn the last report and Michael Peeler who married Margaret Redwine may have been first cousins. Notice in the christening (if Ludwig Riedweil's fourth child the godmother was Anna Margretha, wife of David Bechler. This would be a good point to do research for the next time if you wish.

    Dear Dick,
I have extracted the records of the Evangelische Kirche Freckenfeld, using only FHL film # 0247602 and the results were not as fruitful as I had hoped. As you can see, there were only two families residing in Freckenfeld, having children, in the years 1722-1760. I have extracted all possible data. Marriage records 1742-1760: Married on the 22 Oct 1744 were Ludwig David BECHLER also called Johann David BECHLER later on, a widower & Anna Margarethe, daughter of Martin BURCKHARDT.
This was the only marriage entry listed, with the ancestral surnames, during the time period searched. The next part on the film were the christenings 1738-1779, records were searched from 1738 to 1760, following were the christenings1722-1737, both sections were searched also death records from 1738-1751, and the following entries were listed: Johann David BAECHLER and wife Magdalene had the following children:
    i. Catharina Elisabetha BAECHLER, born 28 Mar 1728
ii. Johann Ludwig BAECHLER, born 5 Nov 1730 (witness was Johann Ludwig RIEDWEYL, a weaver, son of the deceased Friedrich RIEDWEYL) iii. Johannes BAECHLER, born 29 Mar 1733
iv. Johann Michael BAECHLER, born 17 Apr 1735
    v. Maria Catharina BAECHLER, born 29 Apr 1736
vi. Johann Jacob BAECHLER, born 15 July 1738, christened 20 July 1738
vii. Maria Catharina BAECHLER, born 27 Nov 1740, christened 30 Nov 1740 She died on the 28 April 1742, age 1 year 5 month less 1 day.
On the 8 July 1742 died Anna Magdalena, wife of David BAECHLER. They had been married for 15 years and 4 month (about 1727). She gave birth to 5 sons and 3 daughters of whom 2 sons and 1 daughter are still alive. She reached the age of 36 years, 4 month and 15 days. According to the statement about the children, we are missing one child, a son. I did not find the birth, perhaps he was born somewhere else, in a different place.
After the death of his wife, the widower Ludwig David BECHLER married on 22 Oct 1744 his second wife, Anna Margarethe, daughter of Martin BURCKHARDT. They had the following children born in Freckenfeld.
viii. Eva Elisabetha BAECHLER, born 4 Dec 1745, christened 5 Dec 1745
xi. Marie Johanna BAECHLER, christened on 24 Aug 1748
xii. Eva Margaretha BAECHLER, born 26 Oct 1750, christened 28 Oct 1750
xiii. Johann Ludwig BAECHLER, born 17 Apr 1753, christened 19 Apr 1753
We need to remember, that the marriage records only start in 1736, earlier marriage can not be found, that is why a marriage for your parents can not be found here.
Johannes RIEDWYLER and Magdalena had the following children born in Freckenfeld.: i. Maria Catharina RIEDWEILEN, born 1 Aug 1723 no other children were found. Ludwig RIEDWEYL, resident and weaver, and Barbara BAECHLER had the following children born and christened in Cathrinhagen.:
    i. Johann Michael RIEDWEILEN, born 22 Mar 1733
ii. Johannes RIEDWEYL, born 1 May 1737, christened 5 May 1737
iii Johann Ludwig RIEDWEYL, born 4 Dec 1740, christened 8 Dec 1740
iv. Anna Margaretha RIEDWEYL, born 18 Feb 1745, chr. 21 Feb 1745
This ends the extraction for Freckenfeld from 1722-1760.
Results: 1. We have added a new family, the family of Ludwig David BAECHLER. I believe that Ludwig David BAECHLER was a brother to Barbara BAECHLER. 2. The father of Johann Ludwig RIEDWEYER/ RIEDWEILER was Friedrich RIEDWEYL, who was deceased
in 1730. I have worked a total of 2 hours on this, for which you owe me a total of $ 36.
    Sincerely, Marion Wolfert, A.G.
