| 301 | Biography Catharina was born about 1598. [1] Her parents were Hans Merckels and Margaretha. She married Hans Stumpf in 1632, as his second wife, after a gap of 8 year from his first wife. Together they had at least 2 children, twins Hans Dietrich and Hans Heinrich born in 1633. Catharina died shortly after the last twins were born. Her husbands Hans children by their first marriage are often attributed to her, but I can comfortably state the gap of 8 years between wives would make the first 8 children linked to the first Catharina being: Hans Jacob b:1614, Anna Maria b:1615 [2], twins Catharina [3] and Hans Simon b: 1616 [4], Philipp b:1618 [5], two Georges b:1619 who died as infant and Georg born 1622, Hanss Benedict b:1624. He became involved in a complicated feud, partly because he abducted a neighbor's wife, and in 1166 was defeated and banished by Ruaidrí Ua Conchobair (Rory O'Connor), High King of Ireland. In 1167, Dermot appealed for help to King Henry II of England, who refused him direct support but allowed him to enlist a force led by Richard de Clare, 2nd Earl of Pembroke, better known as "Strongbow"and other Norman barons in Wales. In 1169, Strongbow invaded and won much of Ireland including Dublin. Strongbow married Dermot's daughter, Eve MacMurrough. It is thought that Diarmaid Mac Murchada may have commissioned the valuable Irish manuscript, the Book of Leinster. He is buried in the churchyard of Ferns Cathedral, The Cathedral Church of St Edan, County Wexford., Ireland. His grave may still be seen there. [1] Annals of Inisfallen[2] AI1166.7 Diarmait son of Mac Murchada, king of Laigin, was banished eastwards over sea, after the foreigners of Áth Cliath and the Laigin had turned against him. AI1167.2 Diarmait Mac Murchada returned from overseas, and Uí Cheinnselaig was taken by him. AI1168.2 Énna, son of Mac Murchada, was blinded by the Osraige. | MACMURCHADA, Dermait King Of Leinster (I25664)

| 327 | Biography Elizabeth Goode is clearly documented as a daughter of John Goode and his second wife Anne. Anne, the mother, is named Anne Bennet among descendants who wrote the first family history.[1] This idea of Anne Bennet is also supported by naming conventions. Elizabeth was born around 1678 and married John Blackman. She is named Elizabeth Blackman in her father's 1708 will. [2] There is no documentation of her having a middle name of Bennett and it is an internet based addition. The Virginia Cousins: A Study of the Ancestry and Posterity of John Goode page 26 as listed below has extensive documentation of family traditions, including how the stepson Samuel and stepmother Anne were at odds with one another. Not one single time in this volume is any mention made of Anne being of Native American stock. In fact the author states she was from Holland. The Native American claim is based entirely on a creek in North Carolina bearing the Bennett name near the Chowanoke tribal lands. This is another modern flight of fancy. There is no documentation that she moved to Chowan County, North Carolina and married there. There is just a statement that she was married there in 1699. It seems to be asserted just to place her in the vicinity of Bennett's Creek. Bennett's Creek in Chowan County was territory of the Chowanoke tribe. However, there is absolutely no connection between Elizabeth Goode and the Chowanoke Tribe. This is a spurious connection that is misleading at best. There were several Bennett families that settled in Virginia that are well documented. Since John Goode is noted as fighting against the Native Americans, and joining in Bacon's rebellion in part due to the unwillingness of Governor Berkeley to protect against their incursions, it is extremely unlikely that he would at the same time be fathering children by a Native American wife. | 330 | Biography Elizabeth Moseley was born 14 Jul 1725[1][2] in Middlesex County, Virginia, British Colony, daughter of John Moseley and Mary Nichols.[3] She was christened 25 Jul 1725 at Christ Church Parish, Middlesex County, Virginia.[4] Elizabeth was married to Thomas Poor in 1740, St. James Northam Parish, Goochland County, Virginia, British Colony.[5] Elizabeth and Thomas lived in Goochland County, Virginia, where all their 11 children were born, who lived to maturity. Elizabeth's father, John Moseley, executed a deed of gift 17 Oct 1744 to his son-in-law Thomas Poor and his daughter Elizabeth Poor, of three slaves, Ben, Hannah and Sue.[6] Elizabeth's husband died in 1788, leaving a will which loaned Elizabeth the use of most of his property during her lifetime or widowhood. It became necessary for Elizabeth to give power of attorney to Obediah Smith, her trusty and loving friend (and probably her daughter Lucy's husband) to recover her property apparently from George Thomason (probably her daughter Mary's second husband), Charles Bowles and John Montgomery. Apparently this was not successful, and she gave a second power-of-attorney to her son-in-law Wm. Brill/Britt (husband of her daughter, Sarah) to recover "three negroes given to me by my father John Mosley dec'd. Ben, Frances & Sue with their increase, now in possession of Zachariah Hayden (daughter Elizabeth's husband), James Scruggs (daughter Susanna's husband), Joseph Lambert (daughter Jane's husband), Saml Cosby (daughter Mildred's husband), Abraham Perkins, Nathl Parrish which are now on loan from my deceased husband to the several persons above mentioned during his natural life which has now expired."[7] Included at February Court 1789 was a Return of Wm Sampsons Collection as Dep Shff for Stephen Sampson Sheff for 1786, were Wm Poor; Elizabeth Poor for the Thos. Poor Estate; and Robt. Poor Jr. Elizabeth's son William Poor received half of the land where Thomas Poor had lived, and was under age 21 when his father's will was written.[8] Elizabeth died about 1801 (SDATE 1 JUL 1801) in Goochland County, Virginia.[9] Her death is recorded in the St James Northam Parish registry. Elizabeth married Robert Corbet, Knt.[3] (born ca. 1478), son and heir of Sir Richard Corbet and Elizabeth Devereux.[2] Their marriage date is unknown and is estimated. They had three sons and four daughters: Roger, Esq.,[2] married Anna Windsor and had issue;[1] he was a MP and died in 1538[5] Richard,[2] married Margery Saville and had issue;[1] he was also a MP and died in 1566[6] Reginald,[2] 3rd son, married Alice Gratwood[1] and had issue; he also died in 1566[7] Jane, married Thomas Lee[1][2] Joan (or Anne?), wife of Thomas Newport[1][2] Mary, wife of Thomas Powell[1][2] Dorothy, married Sir Richard Mainwaring[1][2] Her husband, Robert, died 11 April 1513.[2] He left a will dated 23 April 1509 and proved 16 November 1513. Elizabeth was one of the executors of his will.[8] In 1541, Elizabeth sued her brother, Humphrey Vernon, and William Cotton for payment of a debt of 200 marks.[9] Elizabeth died 29 March 1563 and was buried at Moreton Corbet, Shropshire, with her husband.[2] Research Notes Daughters Joan/Anne and Margery The given name on daughter Joan's profile was changed from Anne to Joan, as Richardson states that Robert and Elizabeth's daughter, Joan, married Thomas Newport. Joan/Anne's profile needs an overhaul. Detached Margery as daughter as she appears to be the daughter of a Robert Corbet of Cheshire. | 347 | Biography George Anderson served in the United States Civil War. Enlisted: 1864 Mustered out: 1865 Side: CSA Regiment(s): Porter's 4th Missouri Cavalry; Quantrill Raiders; Rank Guerilla George was born in 1848. He was murdered in 1899. Jim Carney's [1] mother Erma Carney [2]told him he (George W. Anderson) was 1/2 or 1/4 Indian blood, presumed to be from his mother - who reportedly was a Cherokee or Osage Indian. This thinking was passed down from her mother along with other family histories being investigated by Jim in the mid 1960's. However with the DNA testing update in 2020: Using current DNA samples submitted by Jim Carney in 2020, the second DNA test taken, it is concluded that George W. Anderson was approximately 1/4 to 1/3 African Negro heritage (estimated at 25-45%) from the Congo region of Africa. Erma always said there was a real mystery as to his origins, and this may explain why. In those days, in the southern states it may have been better to claim Indian ancestry than to acknowledge black and slave related ancestry. Erma said all she knew was he was a bad man, associated with "bushwhackers" and he had been murdered with a tomahawk. [3] George was born in Kentucky, and came to Missouri where he fought in the Civil War for the Confederacy, after deserting from enlistment in the Union Army. He is listed on the Confederate rolls in several places, such as "Confederate Soldiers of Price's Raid" where he was listed at George W. Anderson, rank - Guerrilla, in Quantrill unit. After the war he later met Elizabeth Irene Crose and married in 1870.[4] He was a tall man of partial Scottish descent with very dark red wavy hair. His name was supposedly not originally Anderson according to Erma, and for unknown reasons was changed by him or his father, but again - maybe due to part African heritage. We cannot rule out Anderson was his real name, nor an assumed name. Family were always suspicious as he would not tell his family any details from his past. During the Civil war in 1864 and 1865, as a young man of 16 and 17 years of age, he first served with Porter's Cavalry, 4th Missouri Cavalry. Also rode with Quantrill Unit and also reportedly with his uncle "Bloody Bill Anderson" see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_T._Anderson. Bloody Bill Anderson was also of Scottish descent and a ruthless killer who shot and scalped their prisoners, and was accompanied by Frank and Jesse James. George W. Anderson was listed on the Civil War rolls as belonging to Quantrill Unit, which Bloody Bill Anderson belonged to early in the war. Another connection comes from the article in the Sedalia Democrat Wednesday, January 25, 1899; "George W. Anderson has had a checkered career. He was born in North Missouri in the early '40s; joined the union army at the outbreak of the war, but deserted soon after and is said to have operated for some time with Quantrill's band and his almost as notorious uncle, Bill Anderson (Bloody Bill Anderson). He re-enlisted under an assumed name, and received a would in the arm from a musket ball shortly before the end of the war." After the Civil War George met Elizabeth Irene "Maggie" Crose, married in 1870 and together they had 10 children. Sometime after last child was born, his wife left the family home. He was found living with Annie Woresback (housekeeper) some years later in Linn Creek, Camden County Missouri, and owning several properties in the area. George was killed with a tomahawk or axe by an unknown person (originally rumored to be an Osage Indian) while picking corn from a corn crib in 1899 - Unclear as to motive. See newspaper articles following. Son, William Anderson arrested for the murder of his father, but "Practically no evidence tending to incriminate young Anderson was introduced and he was set at liberty." Unfortunately, he later committed suicide on Christmas day. See below for information as to new speculation following arrest of suspect Hunsaker, 8 years after George W. was murdered. Census 1870 Census finds George (age 23) and Paulina (age 14) Anderson, living with her parents, Robert and Sarah Crose in Prarie, Randolph County, Missouri. [5] Census of 1880 links Mollie, Benjamin, William and Elizabeth (wife) with George as father. Newspaper From "THE REVILLE" Linn Creek, Camden County, Missouri, Thursday, January 19, 1899 Double Murder George W. Anderson and Annie Woresback Brained With an Ax Our usually quiet town was startled late last Friday evening, as it has not been for years by the intelligence that Annie Woresback had been found dead in the door of the old Wm.. Lane house, 2 ½ miles northeast of town, occupied by Geo. W. Anderson and the woman and that as Anderson had not been seen since Wednesday, the two had probably been murdered. The ghastly discovery was made by Wm. L. Hammer, of Montreal, who had called to see Mr. Anderson on business, and informed Mr. Anderson's family, at Erie, of the tragedy before coming in to notify the authorities. Coroner Avery, Drs. Moore and Moulder, Prosecuting Attorney Chalfant and many others repaired to the scene, where about fifty person's had already gathered. Mr. Avery found Mr. Anderson's dead body in an old house used as a corn crib, a few feet from where the woman lay. He had been struck a left handed blow from behind, apparently with the poll of a hand ax, and was lying face down with corn husks in his right hand and a sack in the other. All appearances indicated that while he much have known of the assassin's presence, he had no suspicion of his foul intent, and had been struck down without warning. He had been struck two blows while down. The woman had been struck two blows in the forehead. Her body had fallen partly out of the doorway, and had been further disfigured by hogs. The table had been laid for three, and the meal, supposed to be supper, had evidently been eaten by three persons. The theory of the murder is that their visitor had followed Anderson to the crib while the woman went to milk. After slaying Anderson the murderer had met the woman, who had left a bucket of unskimmed milk on the table, and either to conceal his previous crime or from some deeper motive, had killed her also. What passed between these two --what awful emotions assailed the misguided woman in the presence of a dreadful death- who can conjecture? A watch was placed over the bodies, which were brought to town where an inquest was held, the verdict being that they came to their death at the hands unknown. Anderson's body was turned over to his family and buried at the Conway cemetery, seven miles east of town. The woman's remains were interred on the county farm. On Tuesday night, Newton John, who had been seen in the vicinity, was arrested on suspicion. He had a preliminary hearing yesterday before "Squire" Foster and clearly established an alibi. Anderson was well-known as a farmer, stock raiser and dealer both in this county and in Miller, whence he came some fifteen years ago, and had become quite wealthy, owning several large and valuable farms in both counties. He had recently lived apart from his family, with the Woreback woman, who was raised in Miller county. She was an unmarried sister of John Woresback, sent to the penitentiary from Laclede county several months ago, for stealing a team of horses from Archibald Patterson Jr, near here. The dead man did not usually carry much money on his person, and but few cents was found on his body. An anonymous warning letter was received by Wm. A. Anderson, his eldest son, yesterday, stating that the writer knew who had killed his father, and that the crime was committed Wednesday night. It is not known with certainty that Anderson was seen alive after Wednesday, the place where he lived, being off the common route of travel. The mystery so far baffles all inquiry, and not even the motive can be clearly traced, several probably causes for the crime having been assigned. Anderson leaves a wife, three sons and two daughters. From "The Revielle, Linn Creek, Camden County, MO, April 20, 1899. "We were now in sight of our goal, but we turned aside to attend the sale of the estate of the late George Anderson, who was so mysteriously murdered some months since. We expected to buy some cattel at this sale, but we found a great many stockmen present who seemed to want live stock a great deal more than we did. Everything offered for sale brought exceedingly high prices and the proceeds of the sale amounted to $6,000. THE REVILLIE, Linn Creek, Camden County, Missouri February 16, 1899 $1150 Reward To reconcile conflicting reports, I wish to state that the following rewards have been authentically offered and will be paid for the apprehension and delivery to the sheriff of Camden County, at the county jail at Linn Creek, Mo., of the unknown murderer or murders of Geor W. Anderson charged with the murder of his father, G. W. Anderson, in January was held before Squire Foster last Friday. Practically no evidence tending to incriminate young Anderson was introduced, and he was set at liberty. Since the Trial Mrs. Anderson, the widowed mother of the accused has made a trip to St. Louis accompanied by Attorney Roach and City Marshal Winrod. Whether or not further developments are now at hand remains to be seen. The Lee's Summit Journal Lee's Summit, Jackson County February 3, 1899 Repository, Missouri State Historical Society, Columbia, Missouri Quantrell's Men Geo. W. Anderson, who was one of Quantrell's most daring men, was found dead at his home near Linn Creek, Mo., on January 9th. He had been murdered with an ax and no clue has been found as to who committed the deed. Miller County Autogram 22 Nov 1906: A man named Hunsaker was lodged in the Camden county jail on day last week charged with the murder of George Anderson, said to have been the wealthiest farmer and stock dealer of that county at the time. The murder was committed eight or nine years ago and no trace of the perpetrator could be found. Anderson's oldest son Will, was under arrest for the deed, but there was no evidence against him and he was released. It is asserted that Hunsaker has been in the pen two or three times and while confined there confided to cell-mate that he killed Anderson and that one of Anderson's daughters paid him $300 for murdering her father. The cell-mate told the story and Hunsaker was hunted up and placed under arrest. Anderson was killed with an old ax used for chopping up corn for stock, while at his feed barn, shortly before daylight. The blow was to his head. A Mrs. Wiseback, housekeeper for Anderson was murdered at the kitchen door. | 350 | Biography George was born in 1873. His parents were William B. Quisenberry and Minerva. George married Lavina Henderson on 13 February 1887 in Dallas, Missouri, United States, at aged 15.[1] George and Lavina had two children together; George and Mary Alice. He married Annie Matilda Caroline Peterson in 1900 and together they had 3 more children; Elber E., ELvis R and Winnie "Ruby" Lorene. He passed away in 1914. George died on 10 January 1914 in Dallas, Missouri, United States. His birth date was listed as unknown on his death certificate so we will have to go by census's for an assumed date.[2] Murder and Suicide The Murder "of Miss Winnie Haney and Suicide of George Quisenberry." One of the most brutal and terrible tragedies that has ever occurred in this section of the country happened at the home of Geo. Quisenberry, a farmer living about twelve miles north of Buffalo, at ten o'clock Saturday morning, January 10, 1914, when he shot to death Miss Winnie Haney, an eighteen-year-old neighbor girl, and then, fired a 88-calibre ball into his he own brain, dying instantly. As soon as the terrible deed had been committed, the news was telephoned to Buffalo and Prosecuting attorney J.Miller, Coroner C. J. Lindsey and Sheriff Flanagin left immediately for the scene of trouble. When they arrived at the home of Quisenberry they found the families of the two victims almost prostrated with grief, but, surrounded with friends and neighbors who fain would have brought alleviation to the hearts almost broken with grief and humiliation over the terrible deed. After listening to the statements of the family and neighbors who were acquainted with circumstances surrounding the shooting, Coroner Lindsey decided that an inquest was unnecessary. As usual in such cases booze seems to have been at the bottom of the trouble, The evidence is that on Friday Mr. Quisenberry went over to Louisburg and returned under the influence of liquor and was abusive to the family that night and continued his drinking the next morning. When he returned home Friday evening, he found Miss Winnie and a younger sister, daughters of Wallace Haney, a neighbor, as guests of his family for the night. Miss Winnie had previously assisted Mrs. Quisenberry for several weeks with her household duties and she and her sister felt welcome and safe as guests at the Quisenberry home. Later developments have proven, however, that Quisenberry was terribly infatuated with Miss Winnie, and it is thought that he intended to murder his wife on Friday night as he forced her to take a number of small tablets under threat of violence but which were not strong enough to accomplish the desired end. Saturday morning, he made approaches toward Miss Winnie in a very ungentlemanly manner which were heard by her sister who said that she would call a neighbor in for protection and immediately left the house. He the threatened to kill the neighbor if he was called in and Mrs. Quisenberry, to pacify him in and his drunken notion, started from the home to warn her neighbor, Mr. Cox, not to enter when she met two other friends and neighbors who were passing by, Messrs. Melton and Jackson, who were asked to visit the Home, but warned to use caution. Approaching the home, they heard the piteous pleadings of the girl for her honor and safety and glancing in at the bedroom window saw the girl in the grip of Quisenberry, now thoroughly crazed by rum. They had not more than spied him until Quisenberry discovered their presence. They then turned from the window but had not moved many steps before two shots were heard and all was then quiet. Entering the house, they found the farmer and the girl each with a bullet hole in the temple and with consciousness gone. The man had been thwarted in his dastardly purpose, and, crazed by passion and rum, sent the innocent girl, the object of his infatuation, into eternity and immediately followed. Quisenberry was about forty and years of age and was generally regarded as a pretty good citizen. He was industrious, and had a good little farm. Sources ?
