| 459 | Biography Robert Ingalls was born about 1551, probably in Skirbeck, Lincolnshire, England. He married Elizabeth about 1581, and they were the parents of at least 3 sons and 4 daughters. He lived in Wyberton, Lincolnshire, England in 1585. He was buried on 22 March 1618, probably in Skirbeck, Lincolnshire, England.[1] Research Notes Will: mentions wife Elizabeth, eldest son Edmund, second son Robert, son Francis, servant Anne Cleasbie, cousin Henry, and brother Henry. In his book, The Ingalls family in England and America Walter Renton Ingalls writes that . . . "The first of our own ancestry of whom we know was Henry Ingalls of Skirbeck, probably the great-grandfather of Edmund [making him a grandfather of Robert], who died in 1555 and probably was born about 1505." In "Some English Material Pertaining to Edmund and Francis Ingalls of Lynn, Mass.," John Brooks Threlfall provides support for assuming Robert is the father of Edmund, and that Henry Ingalls *may be* the grandfather *or* great grandfather of Edmund. . . . he writes that "Robert Ingalls was *probably* a grandson of Henry." . . . [TAG, 52:1976:241-243] In the Pillsbury genealogy by Mary Lovering Holman, she says that . . . "the 'Ingalls Genealogy' assumes that the will of an earlier Henry [Ingalls, of Skirbeck], . . . is that of the father of Robert [Ingalls] and hence the grandfather of the emigrants [Edmund and Francis] but no proof is given that such is true." She goes on to say that "It would seem probable that he [Robert] was a grandson [of Henry]. In her English Research Regarding the Ingalls Family of Lincolnshire, England, and Lynn, Masssachusetts Rosalyn Davenport Gibbs writes that . . . "Robert Ingolls, whose brother was Henry Ingolls. The only clue I found to the parentage of Robert and Henry Ingolls is a bequest to 'my father Ingols' in the will made by Henry Ingolls, 12 February 1613/14." He was the son of Johann Willheit and Barbara Lutz.[1] He married Barbara Fenn, 27 Nov 1683.[2] He passed away in 1693.[3] Immigration Notes Samuel and his brother Michäel Willheit were the sons of Johann Georg Willheit. (Johann Michael and Samuel were 1st cousins.) Johann Michäel Willheit, arrived about 1717 and ended up at Germanna, where the "Second Germanna Colony" had been settled in Virginia by Lt. Gov. Spotswood. The other cousin, Johann Friedrich, arrived in 1733 and settled in Pennsylvania. The immigrants were: Johann Michäel Willheit and his sons: Tobias Wilhoit and Johann. Johann Friedrich Willheit and his son Georg Friedrich Wilhide. From 1), all the "Germanna" Wilhites and Wilhoits (and other spellings) descend. | 468 | Biography Sarah McQueen (shown to have been born in 1715) and Thomas Darnall (spelled with an "a" and not an "e" and shown to have been born in 1713, not 1313) married in Maryland in 1735.[1] She had eight children. Research Notes INCONSISTENCIES in the story line of the family. Sarah's birth/baptismal record is needed to resolve not only her birth date but location of birth. There is a lot of erroneous information circulating on Sarah - such as born in 1711 in Westminster, Carroll, Colonial Maryland but "arriving" in 1716 to Maryland or Virginia even though her father, Dugal was supposedly born in Scottland and captured after the Jacobite Uprising in England and shipped as a Scottish Rebel prisoner on the Friendship, to Maryland in 1716. He is also shown to have married his wife in 1711 in Maryland. How was it that he was in Colonial Maryland in 1911 (his marriage to Grace and the birth of his daughter, Sarah ) but not sent to Maryland as a prisoner until 1716? Death info is also inconsistent 1793 and 1795 in Yohogania, Virginia AND in Estill County, Kentucky. Sources ? | 472 | Biography Serena was born in 1860. Serena Hall ... She passed away in 1936 at age 73. From Silas Tucker Oliphant autobiography: " I met the right one on the ballroom floor where the Rev. J. O. Reavis now lives, which was known as the "Mason Hall." On entering the Mason ballroom, Jim Hall came to me and I noticed Lundy White, a friend of mine, was dancing with a girl who attracted my attention, and I turned to Jim and asked him who Lundy was dancing with, and he said she was his sister-"hacked again." I asked Lundy to make me acquainted with Miss Hall, which he did, and I asked her to dance with me the next set, which was accepted. I was in her company all the time I could be from the time I met her in the latter part of 1877 until September 1878. We were at the Bill Austin old place sitting under the old weeping willow, and there it was I asked her to be my wife. She asked for time to make me an answer as she was very young. Her father took sick and died before I saw her again. We were together often during the fall and winter of 1879, so in April of that year at her home I asked her what she thought about the question I asked her under the willow tree. She told me she hadn't thought anything about it but at this time we became engaged and were married October 16th of that year. We began keeping house the following Christmas at the Ben Hall place, one and a half miles north of Burns. We were the parents of six children. Two died in infancy and the other four include: Leonard Oliphant, of Marietta, Ga.; Maggie Walp, deceased, of Burns; Rose Dunn of Burns, and Beulah Jones, deceased, of Burns. Eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren are living." [1] They were married 16 Oct 1879 in Dickson, Tennessee Sources ? | 475 | Biography Sina Paralee Binkley was born in 1813 the daughter of Heinrich "Henry" Binkley and Ann "Anny" Carpenter. She passed away while in childbirth in 1845 to her daughter Sina Parilee "Sissy" Carney as her husband Joshua named the baby girl. Sources: Title: Peter Binkley, Born 1704 and His Descendants Author: Bridget McCartney Rogier, Compiler Publication: 1997 Repository: Call Number: Media: Other Title: Davidson County, Tennessee, Marriage Book No. 1 Repository: Call Number: Media: Book Page: p. 469 From Robert Carney: It is accepted by some that the son (of Henry and Anny) born in 1810 was named Elijah (Eli), and that the daughter born between 1810-1815 was Sina Paralee; rationale: 1. Their ages match the ages in the 1840 census. 2. Joshua Carney bought land from Eli Binkley on Big Marrowbone Creek in 1842 - this was only a short distance from Sycamore Village where the Adam Binkley family had settled. 3. It was a German custom to name the oldest son after the mother's father - Sina's two oldest sons, twins born in 1835, were named Henry and Elijah. 4. On the 1840 census, Eli Binkley is a neighbor to all the Marrowbone Carneys. The son born between 1815 and 1820 has been identified by some as Hiram Henry Binkley who was born about 1815, married Nancy Morris 16 April 1836, and died 4 June 1860. It is suspected that the daughter born in 1810 was Mary Binkley who was born 1 April 1810 and married to Moses Dean in Davidson County, TN on 27 October 1827; she named her second son Henry, probably after her father. | 483 | Biography Speculation provides that his father might be Rev. William Wilkinson, but no known records survive to support this. Using the Pedigree chart from the book below in sources, this would not be the case. This Richard would be born about 1612 of the Isle of Wight. He would be the father of Richard Wilkinson born abt 1648. Granted land in Isle of Wight County, Virginia, on August 13, 1646 for 236 acres in the county of Isle of Wight. He had acquired by purchase 100 of those acres from Richard Death. His estimated birth between 1610 and 1615 assumes he was at least 30 years old when he got this land patent. This verifies the disconnect mentioned above from father William born 1612 and Naomi born 1616. | 489 | Biography The inventory brought in by Edward Carter, Robert Newsum and Walter Wallace named Elizabeth Chetwood, relict of Thomas Chetwood, defunct. The estate of £2000 was granted to his widow in 1678 with Capt. William Ball, Attorney. No mention of lands or children, though he had both. In March, 1669, Mr. Thomas Chetwode was granted a certificate for transporting certain persons, including Elizabeth Chitwode. As early as 1664, Elizabeth Chetwode gave power of attorney to Marquo Barret. The evidence is that Thomas and Elizabeth Chetwood were married in England. "That he made many trips across the ocean is shown by headrights granted in 1658 by Mr. Wm. Underwood for bringing in Thomas Chettwood three times and in 1661 to 'Thomas Chitwode for transporting himself three tymes', with others. In his lifetime he deeded land to many of the prominent colonists in Lancaster and adjoining counties. Among them were William Travers, Jno. Chinley, Marquo Barret, Will Wroughton, Nicholas Wren, Thos. Hearley, Richard Overton, Henry Stoneham, Edward Carter and Edward Dale. Thomas settled in Lancaster County, Virginia Colony, by 1658. Lancaster County mentioned him in tax assessments, 31 Oct 1658,[1] and 30 Nov 1659.[2] The county later assessed him for two tithables, 27 Oct 1664,[3] for four tithables, 8 Nov 1665,[4] and for four tithables, 14 Nov 1666.[5] "He died intestate in 1678. We recommend them to the attention of all Honest men and we recommend to his Excellency the governor of Georgia to Grant them as Pass port to Travill Through the Indian Tribes. B Harris Br Gen John F Compton Colo When Moses Parker came from Georgia to Dickson County, Tennessee, in 1804, all he had was 2 horses, a rifle, an ax, handsaw, and knife, wife and 4 children. The first Primitive Baptist Church was organized in the Parker home in 1810. (JHC) On Headstone at Parker Cemetery, Dickson, Tennessee: PARKER, Moses 10/31/1773-8/9/1855; s/o Daniel Parker & Sarah Mackintosh; Wife: Hannah Johnson b. 1780 [1] The Parker's Creek area was settled in 1804 by Moses Parker and his family when he and his uncle, Elder John Parker, received permission from the governor of Georgia to leave Elbert County to visit the "Natchez Indian Territory". Their family eventually established the Turnbull Primitive Baptist Church in 1806 and remains the oldest continuously meeting church in Dickson County. Elder John Parker was a Primitive Baptist Church missionary that moved from place to place establishing churches & according to church records Moses' father Daniel Parker was the Turnbull Primitive Baptist congregation's first minister. Moses received a land grant from James Robertson of Davidson County dated Aug. 27th 1808 in payment for 6 months service in the late regiment. "When he landed at his destination all he had was two horses which bore the household goods, a rifle, chopping axe, hand saw, drawing knife, wife & 4 children. He quickly built a cabin & a mill & cleared a considerable farm in which he cultivated & raised plenty of provisions for home consumption", (Hickman Pioneer 1887). Elder John Parker soon left to spread the gospel in Crawford County, IL & later to Limestone Co. TX. It was here that he met his maker at the hands of the Comanches during the raid on Fort Parker on May 19, 1836. His granddaughter, Cynthia Ann Parker was captured & went on to live with the tribe for years later marrying the Chief Peta Nocona & giving birth to Praire Flower & the great Comanche Chief Quannah Parker. The John Wayne / Natalie Wood movie "The Searchers" is loosely based upon this story. Back in Dickson Co. TN, Parker's Creek was named for Moses after he killed a bear & cut his name in a tree in 1808. An early Dickson County land deed dated 1827 & signed by Moses refers to "the waters of Parker's Mill Creek" in its survey. After Moses's death in 1852 his daughter, Indiana Territory Parker & her husband Daniel Spencer, remained here and raised a family. The earliest documentation establishing the operation as Spencer's Mill appear just before the Civil War in 1856. The mill was operated by Daniel & Indiana's son, Samuel Spencer, as a water turbine driven corn & flour mill. In order to grind corn and wheat for local farmers in this area, French burr stones were bought & shipped for $14.14 from overseas and used as ballasts for weight during the passage across the Atlantic. The mill became the center of the community where everything from rifles to coffins were manufactured. Even the first thresher in the county was constructed here. Spencer's Mill boasted a wood & blacksmith shop, two stores, a saw mill and a post office. Mail was received semi-weekly in the community from Jan 18, 1878-April 14, 1906. William A. Lampley was its first postmaster. By the turn of the century the center of business had shifted to the nearby town of Burns because of railroad access built there during the Civil War. At that time the town was known simply as Grade 36 because of the mileage to Nashville from there. Later the name was changed to Burns Station. Many believe that the town was named in honor of the president of the Nashville & Northwestern raidroad Michael Burns which makes the most sense since he served as president from 1861-1865. Another old story states that the town was named for a Yankee Captain John Burns that commanded a detachment of black troops there during the war used to finish the railroad from Kingston Springs to Johnsonville & the Tennessee River. While it is true that black troops were used to construct the railroad, there has been no evidence found to back this up that such a man as Capt. Burns existed. In addition, Dickson County only supplied Confederate troops during the War Between the States & didn't exactly support this envasion of Southern soil by the Yankee invaders. Alexander Duval McNairy's 1864 Raid in Burns is a prime example of this. For more on this railroad please visit (visit link) Anyhow, the "Station" in Burns Station was later dropped in favor of simply "Burns". By 1919 Samuel's son, William Spencer Sr., was forced to sell the mill. Jeff Lampley bought the building & dismantled it. The story passed down is that the roof joists were used for the old local 7 Gables Inn that is no longer in existence. The operation of the mill was reborn ten miles away next to the tracks on Railroad Street in Burns. The mill was rebuilt as a new two story linear structure, & passed down to his son, Sammy , then to his brother William Jr., and finally sold to Jewell J. Richardson. In its new building the mill ran on various power sources, including a steam engine and a diesel generator from the old Burns Electric Department until sometime in 1945. At this time Spencer's Mill ceased operation sitting dormant & in disrepair for almost fifty years. Trish & Tim Miller purchased the mill in 1993 and moved it back to the original mill site on Parker's Creek where a faithful restoration began. In time, the present owners intend to operate the mill once again & preserve this as a local historical area. In the meantime cornmeal is being ground on site by a portable gasoline powered mill & complimentary bags are available. Located just off the intersection of Abiff & Spencer Mill Road on Old Spencer Mill Road in southeastern Dickson County, Middle Tennessee. | 494 | Biography Thomas Hoo, Knt. [1] Birth and Parentage Thomas was born about 1370. [2] Thomas Hoo's birth date is not found, but he married his 1st wife before 18 Feb 1394/5, and if was 21 in 1394, then his estimated date of birth would be 1373. However, his first wife Eleanor was already a widow when they married, age 20 in 1381, and therefore born in 1361. This would suggest an earlier birth date for Thomas Hoo, say, 1360. However, Thomas Hoo's mother was born in 1343, and so a compromise guess for Thomas' birthdate would be 1363, when his mother would have been 20. | 495 | Biography Thomas Percy was born in Northumberland, England. Birth Thomas Percy was born circa 1504 at Alnwick Castle, Northumberland, the second son of Henry, 5th Earl of Northumberland and Lady Catherine (Spencer) Percy, daughter of Sir Robert Spencer and Eleanor Beaufort.[1][2] This marriage produced four children in addition to Thomas: Henry (6th Earl of Northumberland) (1502-1537), Ingelgram (c. 1506-1538), Margaret (c. 1500/1502-1540), and Maud.[3][4] Marriage Thomas Percy married Eleanor Harbottal, daughter of Guiscard Harbottal of Beamish, County Durham, who died in the Battle of Flodden and Jane Willoughby. While the date and location of this marriage is unknown, Thomas and Eleanor had issue that included Thomas, 7th Earl of Northumberland (b. 1528), Henry, 8th Earl of Northumberland, Guiscard (who died in childhood), Richard, Mary (wife of Sir Francis Slingsby), and possibly Catherine.[5][6][7] Thomas also produced an illegitimate daughter named Jane, who married Charles Bulkely of White Parish, Wilts, England.[8] Notable Events Thomas's youth was an example of extremes, characterized by ostentatious wealth and subsequent financial hardship, which had plagued Thomas's father for many years. Due in large to his father's squandering of his vast wealth at Court, he destroyed his reputation not only amongst his peers, but among even his own vassals and tenants, where it was noted that "the Earl of Northumberland was not regarded of his owne tenaunts, which disdained him and his blode, and much lamented his foly."[9] By 1517, when Thomas was 13 years old, his father, Henry, was a broken man who had failed his responsibilities and had dragged his family into financial ruin. He lost the prestige that had once characterized him as the "Magnificent Earl" and brought shame upon the name of Percy. At the time of the 5th Earl of Northumberland's death, he had a mere £14 and money had to be borrowed to cover the funeral expenses of this once great man, using what was left of his plate as collateral. He likewise owed £7,000 to private parties and arrearages of £10,049 to the Crown.[10] Thomas certainly experienced both the best and worst of worlds as he grew to maturity and it likely influenced his character for the remainder of his adult life. While little is known of the type of man Thomas became, he and his brother Ingelgram were noted as stalwart soldiers born and bred of the north, with either preferred by their father to have been heir and successor to his earldom. This, however, was not to be, despite their father's threats to disinherit his oldest son, the weak and sickly Henry, 6th Earl of Northumberland.[11] By 1522, Thomas, aged 18, and his brother Ingelgram were fighting on the northern marches under the supervision of their uncle, Sir William Percy. It was during an attack on the Scottish border, where both Thomas and his brother participated, that ruffian Lance Carr was killed and his son and heir captured and brought to England. By this time, Thomas and his brother were already knighted, despite neither having attained his majority. Demanded by the king that the marchmen "make a [Scottish] raid at least once a week while the grass is on the ground," Thomas gained valuable experience in the art of war.[12] As an adult, Thomas held several commissions under his brother Henry, eldest son and sixth Earl of Northumberland. He was also receiver of his brother's revenues in southern Northumberland, where he occasionally resided at Newburn Hall until his involvement in the Pilgrimage of Grace, where he was one of the unfortunate principals appointed to represent the disaffected commoners.[13][14] It was during the rise of this insurrection in October of 1536, while residing at Seamer, in Yorkshire, England, that Thomas, not seeking to be part of this conflict fled for his mother's castle at Wresil.[15] Upon his arrival, however, he was intercepted by insurgents who through either coercion, entreaty, or both convinced him, as well as other nobles, to join their cause. Although the northern revolts were initially strikes against the imperious rule of Henry VIII and his posture toward the Catholic Church and its monasteries, the focus was more specifically on Thomas Cromwell, who, it was believed, was corrupting the king's mind, as well as increasing government control of northern England and its agricultural lands.[16] While the king subsequently placated the insurgents through a general pardon in order to quell the rebellion, he later seized upon the primary leaders, one of whom was Thomas Percy. While initially pleading "not guilty," at his trial, he later changed his plea to "guilty" as an act of contrition to the monarch. But it was for naught, as he was subsequently arraigned at Westminster before the High Steward, Henry Courtney Marquis of Exeter, and was sentenced to death, to be executed at Tyburn and attainted, along with other members of the leadership party.[17][18] It was during this fall from grace that Thomas's elder brother Henry Percy, 6th Earl of Northumberland had been persuaded to leave his estates to King Henry VIII and in failing health died shortly after his brother's execution on 29 June 1537. Henry's nephew, Thomas (son of Thomas), was later restored to blood by Queen Mary and became the 7th Earl of Northumberland, to be later succeeded by his younger brother, from whom all later Earls and Dukes of Northumberland were descended.[19] Death Sir Thomas Percy died 2 June 1537, having been convicted of treason, whereby he was hanged, drawn, and quartered at Tyburn. He was buried in the Crutched Friars' Church in London.[20][21] | PERCY, Thomas 6th Earlo Northumberland (I4976)

The Poor family apparently owned land In Louisa County and Powhattan County, Virginia, as Thomas' estate paid taxes in those counties.[11] They were the parents of 11 children, nine daughters and two sons.[2][12]One child, Judith, died young, without heirs. Thomas wrote his will 09 Oct 1784, which was proved 17 and 18 Mar 1788 by witnesses Samuel Richardson and Jno Martin.[2] He was apparently fairly well-to-do from the inventory of his estate.[13] An additional division of the Estate of Thomas Poor was ordered 16 Oct 1797 in Goochland County, Virginia, probably after the death of his wife, Elisabeth. The final settlement 17 Sep 1798 lists all ten of his surviving children.[5] Various notes and information about Thomas and/or Elizabeth: In 1743 Thomas was an appraiser for the Estate of Thomas Robbinson of Goochland Co., Virginia: "p. 245 Inventory of Thomas Robbinson, dec'd, John Moseley, Adm'r., value L7/19/3 by John Smith, Thomas (T) Stone, and Thomas Poor 11 July 1743 Recorded 20 Sept. 1743 Account of sales of estate amounting to L11/11/1 20 Sept. 1743." 9 Oct 1744 - Goochland County Deed Book 4, pp 434-435: "Thomas POOR, SR. of HANOVER County for love and affection to loving son Thomas Poor, Jr. and wife Elizabeth of Goochland County... 200 acres in Goochland on north side of James River bounded by James George's land, Arthur Hopkins.
