- Katherine's father Benjamin was Treasurer of the Navy, and the son of William Gonson, Treasurer of the Navy before him. In 1573 Benjamin resigned in favor of Katherine's husband John, who then held the office of Treasurer until his death in 1592, about 20 years in office.
