She was born in Ash Grove township, March 25, 1872, the daughter of John L. and Rachel Clawson and spent all of her life in the same community. She married William E. Sears, February 19, 1893. He died September 29, 1903. Three children were born to this union, Mrs. Otto Meyer of Mattoon, Mrs. A. H. Stone and Miss Ruth Sears of near Windsor. Also surviving were two grandchildren and one step-grandchild. She married Edward B. Stephens, July 7, 1912 and he had died February 26, 1929. Mrs. Stephens was a sister-in-law of Mrs. Calvin Clawson of Shelbyville and Mrs. Charles Clawson of Great Bend, Kansas. Burial was in Ash Grove Cemetery.
