Lincoln Butler Smith (1866/1943) was an Assistant Attorney General in Washington D.C in the 1890's and 1900's . His first wife, my grandmother, died in Washington in 1909 Lincoln then came to Chicago, where he began practice as a patent attorney. He returned to Washington to marry his second wife, Alice Elizabeth (Betsy) Wright, on 9-17-1913. Grandma Betsy died in Chicago 3-22-1940. Following services here, her body was taken to Washington for burial in the Wright plot in Rock Creek Cemetery.
The next year, disregarding the Gilbert and Sullivan concerns about marriage with deceased wife's sister, Lincoln returned east and married Frances Louise (Lulu) Wright on 10-18-1941 in Baltimore. The family was familiar with Aunt Lulu thru her frequent visits to Chicago. We usually entertained her at a Jeanette McDonald - Nelson Eddy movie - there always seemed to be one showing somewhere in town. She had been married to Daniel W. Hopper about 1892, as his second wife, and they lived in Baltimore. They are listed there in the 1920 and 1930 censuses, although I have not been able to find 1900 or 1910 listings. Daniel, born about 1851, apparently died after 1930. On some of her earlier visits to Chicago Aunt Lulu was accompanied by her brother Henry Shepherd (Harry) Wright, and I believe they both lived in St Petersburg.
Lincoln and Lulu moved to St Petersburg, where Lincoln died 3-17-1943, and Lulu died 11-1-1947.
