Born in Town of Westerloo, Albany, New York, son of Gardne
r and Minerva(Bennett) Udell, attended district school, Westerloo, Albany, New York,until 16 years of age. Married, Springfield, Massachusetts 23 Aug 1864,Annie M. Pease. Children: Frank L, Edna, Lillian Q. Served in UnionArmy 30th unattached company of heavy artillery (of Springfield,Massachusetts) from August 1864 to close of war. Came to St. Louis in May, 1867, to establish a "branch of the business ofhis brother, C.G Udell, who was a manufacturer of ladders and woodenwarein Chicago. In 1875 consolidated that business with firm of Udell,Schmieding & County, who retired from business in 1882; in 1883established firm of Udell & Crunden, and in 1891 incorporated the UdellWooden Ware County, in which continued until 1899, when entered theUdell-Predock Manufacturing County, of which has been president from itsincorporation. Member of Western Traveler's Association. Republican.Member of Legion of Honor, Royal Arcanum, Independent Order of UnitedWorkmen, Woodmen of the World.
