- Isaac and his oldest son, Thomas B. Hazelwood joined the confederate army on 8/5/1861 and mustered into service at Camp Sneed in Knoxville TN. They were assigned to Compnay "G" which was nicknamed the "Coffee County Guards". Isaac was 37 years and a Sargent. Their regiment was designated the 34th Regiment Tennesse Infantry by the Confederate and as Churchwell's Regiment Volunteers. They were under the command of Captain John F. Ross. Isaac died only a month after his enlistment.
