EARLY PLANT AND SEED CATALOG PUT OUT BY EMH ON FILE. CAUSE OF DEATH:PNEUMONIA BURIAL:IT IS BELIEVED THAT ELIJAH AND SARAH ARE PROBABLY BURIED IN THE CARNEY FAMILY CEMETERY ON STENBERG ROAD, BUT THEIR HEADSTONES HAVE NOT BEEN LOCATED THE RESTORATION OF THE CEMETERY HAS NOT YET BEEN COMPLETED BY GLENDA CROSS AND HER FATHER. THE CEMETERY IS LOCATED BEHIND THE OLD EMH HOMESITE IN WHITE'S CREEK. STORY TOLD BY EMMA CLAY CARNEY:THERE WAS A MAN WHO WANTED TO BUY EMH'S PROPERTY AND "UNCLE LIGE" WOULD NOT SELL IT TO HIM. THIS MAN WAS SO DETERMINED TO OWN THAT PLACE, THAT HE DECIDED TO "HAUNT" IT AND MAKE TALK ABOUT THE PLACE HAVING A GHOST HAUNTING IT AND EMH WOULD THEN BE GLAD TO SELL IT TO HIM. SO ABOUT DARK, SOMETHING WHITE WOULD APPEAR OUT OF THE WOODS AND SCREAM LIKE A WOMAN. SEEMS THIS WENT ON FOR QUITE SOME TIME SO ELIJAH DECIDED TO GET HIS NEIGHBORS (MEN WHO OWNED DOGS) TOGETHER AND THEY WAITED (WITH THEIR DOGS) FOR THIS "GHOST" TO APPEAR AND WHEN IT DID, THE MEN AND DOGS STARTED AFTER IT. THE DOGS GOT SO CLOSE, THE MAN JERKED OFF THE SHEET AND CLIMBED A NEARBY TREE ! OF COURSE, THAT ENDED THE "HAUNTING". MISS EMMA SAID THE MAN'S NAME WAS JOE DUNN, BUT SHE DID NOT KNOW IF THIS JOE DUNN WAS RELATED TO MARY JANE DUNN, WIFE OF JOSEPH ELIJAH CARNEY, ELIJAH'S SON. ELIJAH'S LOG CABIN BURNED COMPLETELY TO THE GROUND. THE FIRE STARTED FROM SPARKS FROM A WOOD COOK-STOVE CATCHING WOOD SHINGLES ON THE ROOF AFIRE. PER EMMA:ONE TIME SARAH FRENSLEY CARNEY, WIFE OF EMH WAS SICK AND IN NEED OF MEDICAL ATTENTION SO A DOCTOR WAS SUMMONED. EMH WAS DEEPLY CONCERNED ABOUT HIS WIFE'S HEALTH AND FELT IT WAS TAKING THE COCTOR TOO LONG TO COME, SO HE SENT ANOTHER PERSON TO FETCH HIM. WHEN THE DOCTOR FINALLY ARRIVED, EMH WAS OUTSIDE IN THE YARD WAITING FOR HIM. THE DOCTOR APPEARED TO BE IN NO HURRY AND UPON APPROACHING EMH, OFFERED HIS AHND IN FRIENDSHIP AND EMH PUT BOTH HANDS BEHIND HIS BACK AND SAID, "DON'T TAKE TIME TO SHAKE MY HAND. YOU'RE NEEDED IN THE HOUSE"!!! THIS WAS SAID WITH COOL BLUNTNEWSS. HE WAS ANGRY BECAUSE THE DOCTOR HAD TAKEN SO LONG TO COME TO HIS WIFE'S AID AND WAS IN NO MOOD FOR FRIENDLINESS. HE WAS ONLY CONCERNED WITH THE DOCTOR TAKING CARE OF HIS WIFE, AND MADE NO BONES ABOUT IT. EMH CARNEY WAS KNOWN TO BE A VERY BLUNT-SPEAKING MAN !
