      "In the reign of King Charles I, Maidstone seems to have remaine d the the Kings hands; for that Prince, by his let. pat. Februar y 27, 1631, granted to John Collins the office of Keeper of th e house or goal of Maidstone and the custody of all prisoners there to hold during his life." "John Collins died in Kent county England in 1644 and by his will devised to his son, John Collins his patent or grant of the Kings goal in Maidstone and all the irons, implements, fees and appurtenances in Maidstone and th e custody of all prisoners there to hold during his life."       John was granted life rights as Keeper of the Gael (Jail) of Mai dstone which was given him by King Charles I. After John's death in 1644, his son John and his family supported King Charles I . John and his family fled to America when King Charles I was executed on January 30, 1649. Source: World Family Tree Vol. 11, T ree 0778.

      Maidstone is about 35 miles South East of London, in the directi on of Dover. Collins' descendants are still living in Maidston e (in the year 2000).
