Notes - From White Family History Page 22
John and wife, Ann (Wisdom) White came to the Colony of Virginia about 1739. King George II had given him a grant of 235 acres and the right to briing five "souls" to Virginia.
The Will of John White, dated August 8, 1787, was probated in February 1788. He died before February 25, 1788, and was buried at the Parish of St. Thomas, Orange County, Virginia.
Will names John White's wife Ann; sons: Thomas, John, Conyers. Daughters: Mary Shackleford, dec'd, Theodosia Early, Frances Phillips, Ann Rhodes, Elizabeth Davis, and Sara Leathers. Exrs.: sons, Conyers and Thomas. Witness: Thomas Fortson. Securities: James Early and Thomas Davis. Will Book 3, Page 178-179. (From N. Kiser's Timeline 3/2003)
There were at least two men named John White in Orange County, Virginia, about the same age and in the same time period (early to late 1700's). There was a third generation immigrant named John White in the Orange County area that later became Culpeper County, and there was a John White who had immigrated to this country some time before 1739 and lived in the part of Orange County that later became Greene County. The John White living in the Culpeper County area married Ann Gower. The John White residing in the Greene County area married Nancy Ann Wisdom and is our ancestor. (This information from exhaustive research by Nancy Kiser and Dorothy Mullinax, family researchers, and hopefully ends the question of whether John White's wife was Ann Gower or Nancy Ann Wisdom.)
