Son of John Mautraers of Crowell and Elizabeth Cifrewast, grandson of Robert Mautravers and Lucy de Brewes, Robert Cifrewast, direct descendant of Sir Richard de Clare, Earl of Hertford and Amice of Gloucester. First husband of Elizabeth d'Aumarle, daughter of Sir William d'Aumarle of Woodbury, Devon. They married in or before 1366 and had two daughters: * Maud Mautravers, wife of Peter de la Mare and Sir John Dinham * Elizabeth Mautravers, wife of Sir Humphrey Stafford, the son of her mother's second husband. Sir John received the inheritance of Hooke from his maternal grandmother at age thirteen, letters of protection to accompany Edward, the Black Prince to Aquitaine in 1365 and was in the retinue of William the Earl of Salisbury in 1370. John died testate 15 June 1386, buried at Abbotsbury Abbey. Elizabeth married, as his second wife, Sir Humphrey Stafford.
