Notes |
- John was a carpenter and farmer. He arrived in Towanda Twp., Bradford Co., Pennsylvania, with his wife and two children, before the 1830 census. Later the Fosburgh family resided in the western townships of Bradford County.
Bradford County land deed record John's sale of Towanda land, in 1831, and his purchase of Columbia Township land in 1835. The 1837 county tax roll lists John Fosberry [sic] owning 8 acres of improved land, 20 acres of unimproved land, 1 horse and 1 cow. His occupation is Joiner. Based on information in county land deeds and tax rolls John appears to be in business with his brother-in-law George Goodrich. Their business might have involved the purchase of land and the erection of buildings (houses and barns), followed by the resale of the improved property.
John, wife Betsey, and their family are enumerated in the 1850 census of Springfield Township. John's occupation is Carpenter. Enumerated in the Vosburg [sic] household are children James, Alonzo, Porter, Dolly, Bennett, Emeline, and Susan Vosburg.
John, wife Betsey, and their family are enumerated in the 1860 census of Smithfiled Township. John's occupation is Farmer. The real estate value of the Fosburgh property is $3000 and the personal property value is $300.
John, wife Betsey, and their family are enumerated in the 1870 census of Smithfield Township. John's occupation is Farmer. The real estate value of the Forsburg [sic] property is $4000 and the personal property value is $400.
John died aged 66 years.
