Notes |
- Georgia Paulding County 1850(Page 114B) census does not list a wife for
Lewis. Youngest child is 2 years old, Mary Ann could have died when
Zachary was born( She had 10 children in 20 years). Also listed is James
Mosley age 12 who we beleive is Mary Ann's brother.
Granted land in the 1838 Cherokee Land Lottery: 20th District, 2nd
section, Cherokee, Newton County
Moved to Craighead, Arkansas after 1856. Is listed with new wife, Milley
and children on 1860 Craighead, Arkansas census page 894. Also listed
are the three children of Milley's by her first marriage,
Elizabeth(1843), John(1844), Josephine(1845), & Martha(1850) Tolbert.
From the Craighead Co History by Williams: L.M. Matthews was an
agricultruist or Farmer and came to what is now Craighead County in the
winter of 1857 and located about one-half mile from the present site of
Jonesboro where he had a field planted in cotton where the town was laid
out two years later. Some years later he moved to Poinsett County,
Arkansas and is said to have died during the Civil War.
