Notes |
- Caroline is listed in the 1860 Oglethorpe County census page 413 with
just the children. Sterling is listed on the 1860 Hamilton County,
Tennessee & 1870 Walker County census with a wife named Mary. This
suggests that Caroline and Sterling were either divorced proir to the
1860census or he left her and went to Tennessee where he remarried.
Our Sterling could be the "BLACK SHEEP" of the Bacon family if he
abandoned Caroline and became a bigamist. Divorce was VERY uncommon for
this era.
