  John Meyrick (Merrick) was Rector of Llandegai, just outside of Bangor about 1 1/2 miles north. Llanleschid is five miles south of Bangor, and John's younger brother Reynault, was Rector of Llanleschid. It is said that Rev. John Meyrick was first in the navy which he left to enter the ministry. Biographical Notes: "John Meyrick, was born about 1513. It appears that he spent some years in the Navy but later entered the ministry following the family tradition. He was Rector of Llanllechyd (Llandachya). He married Sage, daughter of James and Maud (Lloyd) Griffith of Bant y Streimon. There were three children born of this union, William Myrick being next of the line.'"
