      In Re the estate of Edward Dorsey Jr.(son of Col Edward Dorsey), John Petticourt who married one of the sisters of the said Edward Jr. appeared at court and acknowledged the receipt of L37/1/10 (from his father-in-law). In a boundary dispute in 1729 about the tract "Crouchfield"...John Petticoate, aged 60, swore that 27 years ago he was working in the woods for Edward Dorsey and it was the bound tree of John Howard..       Deed: In Land Record of Anne Arundel County Maryland Vol 2: Deed: dtd 6 Oct 1704, recorded 2 April 1706 from Samuel Dorsey AA Co, Gent to John Pettycoart , Baltimore Co. for L30, Seventy acres , the westernmost part of a tract called Wyetts Ridge near the round bay, along broad creek branch, adjoining the land of Amos Pierpoint, originally containing 450 acres. witnesses: Robt. Hooper, John Dorsey Jun., Joshua Dorsey.,

      Deed: p. 574 Deed from Samuel Dorsey AA Co. planter, and John Pettycoat (Pettycourt) AA Co planter and Sarah his wife to Amos Garrett AA CO Merchant. 22 Jan 1707 recorded 6 Feb 1707 for L80. Original patent to Nicho Wyatt planter for tract called Wyatt's Ridge between the branches of South River and main branch of broad creek by marsh near head of Round Bay, laid out 450 acres, according to survey dated 16 Dec 1664. One-half, northwest side of broad creek, was conveyed by Nicho Wyatt to John Annis and Francis Smith. The remaining 225 acres became right of Sarah Wyatt who intermarried with Edw. Dorsey. After Sarah died, the land descended to Edwd. Dorsey Jun, eldest son of Sarah who died about six years later. The land then descended to Saml. Dorsey next brother and grandson of NIcho. Wyatt. Some tine ago Saml. Dorsey conveyed to John Pettycoat 70 acres, This indenture is for 155 acres and the 70 acres, being 225 acres the moyety of tract called Wyatt's Ridge. On the back of deed is noted that a 10 foot square near pare treet hill being a late burying place is excepted for the use of John Pettycourt. Release of dower signed Sarah Pettycoat.

      John Pettycoat patented in Anne Arundel Co. 1718 "Popular Spring Gardin" 120 Acres, liber CE#1,folio 252. On 29 March 1720 John and Sarah Petticourt of Baltimore Co. conveyed to Pleasance Dorsey of same, for L15, 120 acres at the head of Patapsco River. This was the tract "Popular Spring Garden". The conveyance was witnessed by Benjamin Howard and John Norwood. (the later is John's stepson)

      in 1724 Baltimore Co. patented "Petticoats Benefit" 180 Acres liber IL#A folio 376, liber PL#5 folio 404, "Pettycoat's Addition" was patented by John Pettcoat in Baltimore Co. 1723, 150 Acres, liber IL#A liber 336 and liber PL#4 liber 403.
      These tracts of land were purchased by Amos Garrett (of Anne Arundel Co.) who sold them to Thomas Worthington. Thomas willed them to his son Nicholas Worthington 9 Jan 1752.

      20 June 1709, John PETTYCOAT is on the list of debts of the estate of Samuel NORWOOD of Anne Arundel Co., MD.

      20 March 1716, estate of Thomas Hawkins of Baltimore Co., MD lists receipts from John PETTYCOATE.
      7 July 1718, John PETTICOAT received payments from the estate of Thomas Brown of Anne Arundel Co., MD .

      20 Nov 1724, Estate of Jabez Pierpoint filed, lists payments to John PEDDICOTE

      Estate of Samuel Dorsey Baltimore Co., MD 17 May 1727 lists payments to John PETTICOATT, surety for the deceased on a bill payable to Amos Garrett, Esq.

      This Indenture made this 9.th day of October in the year of Our Lord seventeen hundred and twenty nine Between John Pettycoat of Baltemore County Planter of the one part and Thomas Worthington of Ann Arundell County Merchant of the other part Witnesseth that Whereas the said John Petticoat by his deed duly made and executed Bearing Date the Twenty Ninth day of June seventeen Hundred and Twenty three for the Consideration therein Mentioned did Bargain Sell Alien Confirm and make Over unto the af.d Thomas Worthington his heirs and assigns Two Tracts or Parcells of Land the One Called Petticoats Benifitt the other Called Petticoates Addition Containing in the whole Three hundred and Thirty Acres of Land with this proviso that if the said John Petticoat his heirs Executors or Administrators should well and truly pay or cause to be paid to the said Thomas Worthington his heirs Executors or Administrators the full and just sume of sixty four pounds sterling Money of Great Brittain with Lawfull intrest thereon at the House of the said Thomas His heirs Executors Administrators at four several payments the first payment which is for fifteen pounds sterling afd with Lawfull Intrest ^thereon^ to be made the first day of MayNext Ensuing at the House af.d the second payment which is for fifteen pounds sterling af.d with Lawfull Intrest thereon to be made on the first day of May in the year seventeen Hundred & Twenty five at the House aforesaid, the Third payment which is for fifteen pounds ster aforesaid with Lawfull Intrest thereon to be made on the first day of May in the year seventeen hundred Twenty & six at y.e House af.d the fourth & Last payment which is for nineteen pounds sterl af.d with Lawfull Intrest thereon to be made the first day of May seventeen Hundred and Twenty ^and^ seven at the House af.d and shall also well & truly pay all Charges Drawing Recording and all other Charge occationed by this deed unto him the said Thomas his Heirs Executors ^or^ Administrators at the same time & place of the Last payment being to be made that then this Deed and the Estate therein made to Cease Determine and be utterly void and of no Effects otherwise to stand & remain in full force effects & Virtue as by the said Deed Refferance being thereunto had may more fully & at Large appear

      Now this Indenture further Witnesseth That Whereas the said John Pettycoat hath not Complyed with the payments of the Money Mencond in the proviso af.d according to the Tennor thereof as also for a ^further^ Consideration of the sume of five shillings sterling Money to him in hand paid by the said Thomas Worthington the Receipt whereof he the said John Pettycoat Doth hereby acknowledge as for the further confirmations of the Land af.d unto the said Thomas Worthington his heirs and assignes for Ever Hath Given Granted Remised Released Assigned and made over and by these presents Doth for himselfe and his heirs give grant Remise release assigne and Make Over unto him the said Thomas Worthington his heirs & assigns for Ever all them Two Tracts or parcells of Land so as af.d Mencond with the premisses & appurtenances thereunto belonging To have and To hold the said Two Tracts of Land & premisses thereunto belonging or in any Wise appertaining unto him the said Thomas Worthington his heirs & assigns for Ever and to no other use Intent or purpose whatsoever any thing mencond in the af.d Recited Deed to the Contrary thereof notwithstanding And the said John Petticoat doth hereby for himselfe and his heirs Covenant Promise Grant & Agree to and with The Said Thomas Worthington his heirs and Assignes that the above bargained Two Tracts or Parcells of Land and Premisses Will Warrant and for Ever Defend against him the said John Petticoat and his heirs and all other persons whatsoever Claiming or to Claim by from or under him the said John Petticoat his heirs or assigns or by from or under him them or any person or persons whatsoever and further the said John Petticoat for himselfe his heirs Executors & Administrators Doth Covenant Promise Grant & Agree to & with the said Thomas Worthington his heirs & assignes that he the said John Pettecoat and his heirs shall & will from time to Time & at all times for Ever hereafter due Doe make acknowledg suffer & Execute or Cause to be ^made^ done acknowledged suffered & Executed all and every such further and other Act or Acts thing or things assurances or Conveyances in the Law as by the said Thomas his heirs and assignes or his or their Councill Learned in the Law shall be from time to time Reasonably advised or Devised for the further and better assurance secure & sure Makeing of all and singular the premisses hereby bargained ^and sold^ or intended to be hereby Bargained & Sold according to the True Intent of these presents In Witness whereof the said John Petticoat hath hereunto set his hand & seale the day & year above written his Signd Sealed and Deliv.d John IP Petticoat in the presence of mark seale Vachel Denton John Jones

      Memorandum on this day (to witt) the 9.th day of October seventeen hundred & Twenty Nine Came before me the subscriber one of his Lordships Justices of the Provinciall Court of Maryland John Petticoat the person within named and knowledged the within deed to be his Act and Deed and the Land and Premisses therein Mencond To be the right of the within named Thomas Worthington his heirs and assigns for Ever according to the true Intent & Meaning of the said Deed and the Act of Assembly in that Case made and provided Taken & acknowledged before me Recorded the 4.th Feb.ry 1729 the day & year above Written Benj.a Tasker
