Notes - Edward Dorsey (d. 1659) immigrated first to Lower Norfolk, Virginia, and later to Anne Arundel County, Maryland. He took up a tract of land on the Severn River (then called the Bush River) at what is now Annapolis, which he named Hockley-in-the-Hole.
Two of his sons, Col. Edward Dorsey and Hon. John Dorsey, were planters whose descendants were prominent figures in Maryland for centuries.
