• Notes

  John Moore came to Virginia in 1620 in the Bona Nova & was listed at Elizabeth City with his wife Elizabeth who came in the Abigail in 1622, in the census, 1623 & in the muster, 1624/5, in which his age was shown as 36. His patent for 200 acres on Little Poquoson Creek was issued 3 Jul 1635 & 10 days following we find another land patent made by Thomas Viscount for 100 acres adjoining the land of John Moore & John Garnett, etc. in Land Bk 1, p. 225. This appears to be the last time we find him in the Elizabeth City land records. Since his son Augustine re-patented his father's 1635 grant on Little Poquoson Creek adding 85 acres which had been found within the bounds (Pat. Bk 6, p. 614) so we know John had died sometime prior to that date of 19 June, 1676. This info can be found in Adventurers of Purse & Person by John F. Dorman, vol 2. p. 685 & also in Willis & Administrations of Elizabeth city Co, VA 1688-1800 by Blanche A. Chapman, p. 131. There is no record yet found to establish an exact birth date or place or parents for him, so the birth & christening dates & parents & siblings' names which have been added to his record is all guesswork.
