• Notes

  Samuel Russell, second son of Rev. Samuel and Abigail (Whiting) Russell graduated at Yale University 1712; studied Theology with his father; was tutor at Yale in Saybrook for two years from 1714. He preached at various places temporarily until he was ordained the first pastor of a church at North Guilford, Connecticut , June 15, 1725, where he served until his death January 19, 1746. He left an estate of $5,000, nearly one fourth of it in books. "HE bore the character of a faithful and worthy minister." He married 10 November 1718 , Dorothy Smithson, born 1698 , daughter of Samuel Smithson of Guilford, COnnecticut from Lincolnshire, England, who died 1 May 1755.
