REMSEN MAN DIES, RESULT OF ACCIDENT. Carl Bock Passes Away in Hospital After Brief Illness. Funeral Held Here Saturday.
Carl Bock, of Henry township, a well known farmer here for many years, and a native of this community, died in a Le Mars hospital last Thursday night from blood poisoning caused by an accident which befell him only eight days previously. Mr. Bock was 37 years old, and is survived by his wife, two children, one brother, and his parents. The body was brought to Remsen the following day, and the funeral held Saturday with services in St. Paul's church.
Mr. Bock was injured on the night of March 12, when, after having visited with a neighbor, he attempted to crank his car to return home. While manipulating the crank he slipped and fell, striking his head against the radiator and inflicting a wound in his forehead. Within a short time blood poisoning developed, and after consulting physicians he was hurried to a hospital in Le Mas. His condition as regarded as serious from the first, although several days later he showed signs of recovery, but a relapse followed and the result was fatal. He passed away at the hospital at 9:20 o'clock Thursday night, March 20.
The body was brought to Remsen the following day, and taken to the home of his relatives, Mr. and Mrs. Peter H. Koch, in town, awaiting burial.
Carl Bock was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Juergen Bock, old time Remsen farmers who once lived south of town but now residing at Gladbrook, Iowa. He was born on a farm here January 1, 1887, and attended the local schools, and later attended college. In his youth Carl was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, and has been a member of St. Paul's congregation for many years. In July, 1922, he was married to Miss Minnie Grage, and the couple has farmed in Henry township ever since. Two children were born to the couple.
The deceased was a world war veteran and received his first military training at Camp Dodge, later serving for two years with the 88th division overseas. He was honorably discharged, and came direct to Remsen after the war to resume his residence here. Carl Bock was a likable young man, and had many friends in this vicinity, all of whom were sorely grieved over his untimely death and extend deepest sympathy to the bereaved wife and children.
The funeral was held last Saturday afternoon with services at the Peter Koch home at 1:30 o'clock, followed by church services conducted by Rev. A. H. Juergens of St. Paul's church.
