...Joseph father died when he was he was but a small boy. He had no early school advantages--the public school house was then an institution unknown. His youth covered the period of the war of 1812. Living on the northeast coast of Maine, he was an eye-witness to some of the thrilling scenes of that memorable contest, and remembers distinctly the landing of the Red Coats on his native shore, and could relate many of the interesting events of that day.
...Joseph was married to Miss Mary Preston, Nov. 24 1825, at the placed of their birth.
...At about 30 years of age Father Jones was converted under the preaching of his brother-in-law, Mathew Preston, an exhorter in the Methodist church, which he, with his good wife joined, and of which he ever remained an honored and devoted member.
...On Sept. 1st., 1851 the family moved to Potter County, PA arriving there on the 10th day of the same month. Here they remained until April 1869, when they moved to Caldwell County, MO.
...After a long illness, while conversing with Dr. Norton, he said "they talk about night; I don't see any night, it is all mid-day glory; everything looks so beautiful and lovely, even the trees are so bright and beautiful." At a few minutes past ll p.m. June 8th, 1885 he died. (Findagrave)
