Describe The Record (Notes) John Ross, page 56: "One of the first marriages of Friends at Opeckon was that of John Ross and Lydia Hollingsworth; but they had to go all the way to Nottingham and back to declare their intentions. John Ross was a son of Alexander, and Lydia Hollingsworth was a daughter of Stephen. At Nottingham under date of 8 month 18, 1735, it was recorded that John and Lydia had appeared and had produced from the 'weekly-meeting of Opeckon' what could be desired with respect to their conversation and clearness. On 9 month 15, 1735, they appeared at Nottingham the second time, and were allowed to proceed. Josiah Ballinger and Isaac Parkins were appointed to attend the marriage, 'which is to be accomplished at Opeckon,' to make report thereof, and to send the marriage certificate as soon as possible. William Jolliffe states that the marriage took place at Hopewell, then in Orange County, Va., on October 11, 1735." [15]
