- Mart was 14 months older than I was, and he and I were always fighting. He was sent to a Catholic Boys school when he was about 12. He would hop trains at that age and go all the way to Oregon. He was quite adventerous and rebellious. He spent most of his life in one prison or another throughout California and other state. He almost got killed in Levensworth Prison in Kansas. He was an alcoholic and would steal things. He enjoyed playing tennis while in prison. He died while he was out of prison. He was living with a lady at the time, and seemed to be doing pretty good for him. He loved dogs and was a good person, who just never found his way. He never really worked for a living. Mom and I would travel on bus to visit him in the various prisons he was at. We loved to be up at Grizzly in the summer and would explore together as children.
