- Born on Staten Island. Moved to Hunterdon Co NJ betw 1722-24.Appears again as early settler in Rowan Co NC. John received a land warrant for 640 acres on both sides of Fourth Creek below MacIlwain'splace. Oliphant sold his land on Buffalo Brach to Fergus Sloan several years later. IN 1755 James Lambert sold his land on the Catawba River to John Oliphant of Amwell Township Hunterdon Co NJ,where John built a mill. John Oliphant, William Ireland, and Andrew Morrison were among settlers forced from their lands due to Cherokee attacks
