Feb 1810:Five year enlistment in Capt. Sevier's Company, 2nd Regiment of the Regular United States Infantry at Highwasse (Hiwassee Garrison) Tennessee.
Private, 5'10", Blue eyes, Fair hair and complexion, age 20-21 years. Occupation of farmer. Born Oglethorpe County, Georgia.[1]
26 Feb 1810: – Enlist in 2nd US Infantry at Hiwassee Camp, Tennessee under Capt. Sevier's US Rifles Co. (Locations Unknown)
2 Feb 1812 to Mar1813 – Under Capt. Wm. R. Boote's Infantry Co. (Locations Unknown)
Mar 1813 to16 Feb 1815 – Under Capt. William Lawrence's Co. (Assumed at Ft. Bowyer under Co. John Bowyer [Construction Apr. 1813 to Jun. 1813 & until abandoned in Jun. 1814. Assumed reoccupied in Aug. 1814 under now Major William Lawrence. Lawrence commanded for both the 1st battle of Ft. Bowyer on 9/12/1814 & 2nd Battle on 2/12/1815.)
16 Mar1815 to 28 Feb 1815 – Under Capt. Bradley (Discharged at New Orleans)
George later received a land warrant for this service in Missouri[2].
After expiration of regular Army enlistment in 1815, George was drafted in 1818 as a private in Capt. Reynolds Company of the Georgia Militia in support of the 1st Seminole War. George later received two land warrants in Missouri for this additional war service.[3].
George is found in Franklin Missouri in 1819. George and a person named Owen placed an ad in the Columbia Missouri Intelligencer about a horse they had found in Rock Fork Township of Boone County.
Record of owning land in 1834 South West of Sedalia. On 5/14/1835 George Varner was granted the patent for the following described property: "SW Quarter of the NW Quarter, Section 12 of Township 49, Range 14 West" This land was sold in 1853 and they came to Miller County, near Tuscumba.
Need Proof of Name/Birthplace. 1880 Census with Nancy Ann says parents born in Tenessee - conflict in memory? Death Certificate filled out by Nancy Ann Varner son Otto, states her father was Thomas Varner. First two sons were Thomas and George... is father possibly Thomas George Varner or George Thomas Varner?
Found in 1850 Census with Nancy as 8 year old child. Occupation - Farmer.
Harriet, wife age 39; Thomas T. son age 14; George W. son age 12; Edward son age 10; Nancy age 8 - daughter; Elizabeth Daughter age 6; Samuel son age 4; Francis son age 2.
Found again in 1860 Tuscumbia Census. Aged 78, with wife Harriet aged 49. Son George W. aged 23, son Samuel aged 15, Son Francis aged 12, son Glenn aged 8, son John aged 5 and Cynthia aged 3... WOW! What an active guy in bed right to the end at age 74 !!
