Commandant at Fort Patrick Henry in the Illinios Country on 20 Mar 177?. He was at Cahokia on 31, May 1780. He occupied Ft Confederation in 1799 from www.wvculture.org/history/indland.html
In 1778, George Rogers Clark temporarily broke the British-Indian alliance with victories in the Illinois territory at Kaskaskia, Cahokia, and Vincennes, Colonials rejected an attempt by Wyandots and some Shawnee to negotiate a peace in 1779. Although the main British army surrendered at Yorktown, Virginia, on Oct 19, 1781, occasional clashes occurred on the frontier. The bloodiest Revolutionary War battle in western Virginia Began on Sept 10, 1782. Wyandot, Dellawar and British forces attacked FT Henry. The most dramatic story associated with this siege of Ft Henry is the daring run of Elizabeth Zane, who allegedly carried gunpowder to the fort amidst heavy gunfire. The settlers, held the fort, and after three days the Indians and their British allies gave up. Soon thereafter, the British ordered a halt to all attacks on the Frontier"
Richard and his brother, Tobias, married sisters who were the daughters of William Brocus. Richard was discharged from the Army in Louisville, KY in 1781 and married Ann Brocus that same year. He was 27. He was granted 4000 acres for his military service: 1000 acres at the mouth of ObyanCreek on 8-3-1782, 1000 acres on the Virginia and Carolina state line on8-6-1784, 1000 acres on the Cumberland River on 8-10-1784 and 1000 acres on Mayfield Creek on 8-12-1784.
