Notes:
Bathsheba was born between 1745 and 1750 (best info 1746) either in Edgecombe County or near Anson County, North Carolina. She married William Gulledge between 1770 and 1772 in Anson County. I strongly believe that she was a daughter of Trader John Watts who married Gi-Yo-Sti-Ko-Yo-He of the Bird Clan. They were the parents of John Watts, Jr. otherwise known as Young Tassel. Evidence of this is the will of Malachi Watts (son of Trader John Watts) who died in Anson County, N.C. in 1804 and had William Gulledge as a witness to the will. Could Malachi Watts have been a brother to Bathsheba Watts Gulledge? Also William Gulledge and Bathsheba Watts had a son named Stephen Malachi Gulledge which is a clue.

Watts, John - Cherokee Chief, was born in 1753, the son of Trader John Watts. Also known as Kettiegesta, he was for many years a leading chief of the warlike Chickamauga faction of Cherokees that waged war on the American Frontier.
From page 353 of "Old Frontiers", by J.P. Brown: Chief John Watts was described by Governor Blount as "unquestionably the leading man in his Nation." He possessed a talent for making friends, red and white. William Martin, son of General Joseph Martin, said of him, "He was one of the finest looking men I ever saw, large of stature, bold and magnanimous, a great friend of my father
s." Major G.W. Sevier states: He was a noble looking Indian, always considered a generous and honorable enemy," and other pioneers paid high tribute to his "engaging personality".

WILLIAM CAME TO HICKMAN COUNTY AND PERRY COUNTY IN TENNESSEE AS EARLY AS 1813, AND CROSSED OVER INTO DECATUR COUNTY IN WEST TENNESSEE ABOUT 1820 TO 1822, AFTER TREATY WITH INDIANS, AND THEIR REMOVAL. WE, ARE NOT SURE AT THE PRESENT TIME, BUT FEEL VERY STRONG THAT IT IS A POSSIBILITY THAT MY GREAT-GREAT-GREAT-GREAT-GRANDPARENTS WERE ALSO ANOTHER WILLIAM GULLEDGE, AND WIFE TEMPLE JONES GULLEDGE, AS WE HAVE FOUND A RECORD OF MARRIAGE LICENSE BEING ISSUED TO THEM AT THE DAVIDSON COUNTY COURT HOUSE-NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE. BOOK #1, FROM JANUARY 2, 1789 TO DECEMBER 13, 1837 ON PAGE #30 DECEMBER 22, 1797 A LICENSE WAS ISSUED FOR THIER MARRIAGE. THE GULLEDGE'S HAD MOVED ACROSS TENNESSEE, THROUGH VARIOUS COUNTYS UNTIL THEY GOT TO ROBERTSON COUNTY, TENNESSEE (THIRTY ODD MILES NORTH OF NASHVILLE), AND THEN THEY STARTED A SOUTH-WESTERLY MOVEMENT THROUGH DAVIDSON COUNTY, HICKMAN COUNTY, AND HUMPHREY COUNTY TO THE TENNESSEE RIVER. I HAVE A FEELING THAT IS NOT FAR FROM WAVERLY, TENNESSEE AND CAMDEN, TENNESSEE. THEY LIVED AND DIED ON THIS FARM (A GOOD SIZED FARM-SEVERAL MEMBERS HAD HOMES ON IT). THIER HOME WAS ON A "PERIMETER RIDGE" JUST OUT OF CUB CREEK BOTTOM, SOMETHING LIKE THREE QUARTERS OF A MILE SOUTH OF JOHN TAYLOR AND JANIE QUINN'S HOME, THERE IS STILL SIGNS OF THE OLD HOME AND CHIMNEY. ON A "BRANCH" THAT RUNS JUST SOUTH OF JOHN TAYLOR QUINN'S HOME IS A LOCATION OF A "BRIDGE" THAT HAS ALWAYS BEEN THERE-THIS BRIDGE IS AT A POINT OF A "HIGH BLUFF" ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE BRANCH, AND ON THIS HIGH-BLUFF RIGHT ON THE BRANCH IS "THE OLD TIME GULLEDGE SETTLER'S GRAVEYARD" WHERE THE OLDER ONES FIRST BURIED THEIR FOLKS. THERE IS BETTER THAN TWENTY GRAVES HERE WITH STANDING SANDSTONE HEADMARKERS. WILLIAM, SARAH (HIS WIFE)- WILLIAM CARROLL AND HIS WIFE FRANCES DOWDY GULLEDGE, ARE THE ONLY ONES THAT WE CAN BE SURE OF AT THE PRESENT TIME. JUST SOUTH OF THIS GRAVEYARD, IS THE FAMILY GRAVEYARD OF JAMES GULLEDGE, AND HIS WIFE VISA (OR VISEY) GIBSON GULLEDGE ARE BURIED HERE-THEY HAVE A GRANITE AND INSCRIPTIONS. ALSO WILLIAM (OR BILL) GULLEDGE, JIM HIRAM GULLEDGE, JOHN HENRY, AND THIER SISTERS ARE BURIED HERE, THIS GRAVEYARD IS ABOUT A THIRD OF A MILE SOUTH OF THE OLD GRAVEYARD. AT THE JOHN TAYLOR QUINN AND HIS WIFE JANIE'S IS ANOTHER GRAVEYARD WHERE WE FIND JOHN GULLEDGE, AND HIS WIFE ELIZABETH HAMPTON GULLEDGE BURIED HERE, IT IS BELIVED THAT THEY, AND THIER OWN FAMILY STARTED THIS GRAVEYARD. JOHN TAYLOR QUINN WAS BURIED HERE, BUT WIFE JANIE WAS BURIED AT THE NEW CEMETARY AT CEDAR HILL.
FROM David Bowman Jr.:
Settled in Perry County Tennessee old 5th Distric which became 12th Distric,Decatur County in 1845. Mr Gulledge settled on the Gulledge branch and Cub Creek. He was burried at the old Gulledge settlers grave yard on A bluff on the Gulledge Branch. (Note in book I do not know where AB got the information and do not know if it is any relation to these Gulledges) A William Gulledge and a Tomas Gulledge had militay service with the Militia, Probly the state Militia in the Indian Wars and the War of 1812. Rearch is needed on theifr famly too.
Where Sarah was born not clear 1960 census shows her being born in GA. maybe SC. Sara died 1869 at old home place Gulledge branch and Cub Creek. Buried at the old Gulledge settlere's graveyard

29. | John GULLEDGE (GULLAGE) (2.Bathsheba2, 1.Gi-Yo-Sti-Ko-Yo-He1) was born about 1794 in USA; died about 1862. Other Events:
- FamilySearch ID: GJM6-66S
- _UID: 3267A12036A54C9188DF27E58194EEE56D84
- Census: 1850, Simpson County, Mississippi
Notes:
Very little is known about the background of the Gullage Family. Most of the information that could be found came from a journal that John Gullage kept on his journey from around Cheraw and Society Hill, South Carolina. The earliest date found in the journal of John Gullage was July 1, 1825; therefore, he must have been born in the early 1800's or the very late 1790's.
John Gullage married Nancy McCall
John's sister Mary? Gullage married ????McCall
William Gullage was John's brother
John Gullage two sisters: Caroline Gullage Wilkes and Margreat Gullage Byrd
And a niece Frances Byrd
Note: Letters from family and friends are on file. Also, there is a little history included.
Late in the evening on a Christmas Eve, probably in the year 1847, some of our McCall ancestors (John Gullage's family) arrived at their first home in Mississippi. They had traveled for 44 days by wagon train through rain, snow, hail, and flood from Society Hill, South Carolina.
The entries in this journal made after 1862 are believed to have been made by Thomas Gullage McCall.
All the information in this research is the work of several persons: Dr. D.A. McCall and his wife Margie Parks McCall who preserved the John Gullage journal; Thomas Joseph and Florrie Jones McCall for their encouragement and for much of the supporting data and information; John Cullum Halbrook, Jr. for beginning this genealogy which is so important to all of us; and ?Mugga? (Ernestine McCall Halbrook) to whom family was so important and instilled that same love of family in her children.
Note: This journal is in a handwritten journal. The earliest date in it is July 1, 1825 and the latest is 1875. It lists receipts for payments and work done, mail route expenses, and postage charges; it also relates brotherhood signs and signals, church meetings, and ?cures for charbon and flusk.? It was begun by John Gullage and continued by his nephew Thomas Gullage McCall. Thomas Gullage McCall was remembered by one son Duncan Dent McCall as being a small man who in later life had a slight limp. He was a good mechanic and blacksmith who could cut grooves in a log to make the big screw for the press that baled cotton after it was ginned. It was said that he had a mail route somewhere between Mobile, Alabama, and Laurel, Mississippi, and during the Civil War was at times given special shoes with messages hidden in them. On July 18, 1862, he enlisted as a private in Company D, Second Regiment of Mississippi State Troops which is noted in ?A History of Simpson County to 1865? (p. 161) as Barwicks County, Fourth Cavalry of Company D, Second Quinns State Troops.
