On 10 February 1403/4 he released to the King all his right in Sutton Scotney. In 1405 he was about to go to sea on the King's service with Thomas of Lancaster, Admiral of England. The right to bear the undifferenced Arms of Hastinges was decided against him in the Court of Chivalry, 9 May 1410, and in favour of his opponent Reynold, Lord Grey of Ruthin, heir to the sister of the whole blood, in preference to his own claim as heir to the brother of the half-blood, of John, Lord Hastinges, ancestor of the Earls of Pembroke. From this decision he appealed, but finally, on refusing to pay the costs of this suit (lest he should thereby acknowledge its justice), he was imprisoned (about 1417) in the Marshalsea apparently till his death. On 11 February 1410/1, as Edward, Lord of Hastynges and Stoutvile, he was pardoned his outlawry for not appearing to answer touching a debt. Previous to the Coronation of Henry V he unsuccessfully claimed to carry the Second Sword before the King at his Coronation, and also to carry the Great Gilt Spurs, and to perform the office of Chief Napperer.
