Per Sara Binkley Tarpley
Nashville, TN
www.binkleytarpley.com
Adam had two sons named John Jacob, one born 23 Jan. 1766, in Monocacy, Frederick Co., MD, and one born 1 August 1772 in Monocacy. Presumably the first one died. In accordance with German naming customs, John Jacob Binkley would have been called Jacob.
It is this Jacob Binkley, b. 1772, who was the father of James Binkley of Davidson Co., TN. To the best of my knowledge, his wife is unknown. Their children were James, b. 1797, m. Lucinda Smith; Henry, b. abt. 1800, m. Mary ?; William, b. abt. 1804, m. Elizabeth Smith; Lavina, b. abt. 1811, m. Caleb Keeler; George C. Binkley, b. abt. 1812, never married; David S. Binkley, b. abt. 1813, m. (1) Huldy Durard and (2) Priscilla Nabours; Jacob J. Binkley, b. abt. 1814, married Sarah Lee; and Mollie, date of birth unknown, m. Lemuel Morris.

From Robert Carney:
It is accepted by some that the son (of Henry and Anny) born in 1810 was named Elijah (Eli), and that the daughter born between 1810-1815 was Sina Paralee; rationale:
1. Their ages match the ages in the 1840 census.
2. Joshua Carney bought land from Eli Binkley on Big Marrowbone Creek in 1842 - this was only a short distance from Sycamore Village where the Adam Binkley family had settled.
3. It was a German custom to name the oldest son after the mother's father - Sina's two oldest sons, twins born in 1835, were named Henry and Elijah.
4. On the 1840 census, Eli Binkley is a neighbor to all the Marrowbone Carneys.
The son born between 1815 and 1820 has been identified by some as Hiram Henry Binkley who was born about 1815, married Nancy Morris 16 April 1836, and died 4 June 1860.
It is suspected that the daughter born in 1810 was Mary Binkley who was born 1 April 1810 and married to Moses Dean in Davidson County, TN on 27 October 1827; she named her second son Henry, probably after her father.
Sina married Joshua "Poke" CARNEY on 3 Mar 1835 in Davidson County, Tennessee. Joshua (son of William CARNEY and Rebecca "Virginia" GULLEDGE (GULLAGE)) was born on 8 Mar 1816 in Davidson County, Tennessee; died in 1885 in Cheatham County, Tennessee. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

The father was born in 1784, and the mother about the same time. They died in 1860 and 1843, respectively. Our subject was united in marriage to Miss Nancy Moses, who was born in Tennessee in 1836. Her father, Henry Moses, was born in Georgia in 1792, and came to Tennessee when about twenty years of age. Here he married the mother, Eberline Carney, who was born in 1812. Her father died in 1878. Mr. and Mrs. Binkley became the parents of these children: Sarah (deceased), Eliza A., Eberline, John R., Nancy M., James, William T. and Emma. Mr. Binkley was reared on a farm, and followed farming for a livelihood until 1862, when he enlisted in Company G, First Tennessee Regiment, and was stationed at Nashville for nineteen months. His health was very poor at this time and he was compelled to return home. Since that time he has been sell- ing timber, and also farms at different times. In 1834 he moved on the farm where he now resides. He belongs to the Republican party.
