I, Margaret Dent of Gisbrough in the County of Yorke, widdow, being of sound and p'fect mind and memory (all praise & thanks be to God for the same) but being aged & infirme & knowing the uncertainty of this life on earth, and being desirous to settle things in order and to dispose of such estate as it hath pleased God to bestow upon mee, as alsoe to p'vent disputes & differences amongst my children and relacons after my death, doe make this my last will & testament in manner & forme following, revokeing and hereby annulling all & every testament & testaments, will & wills whatsoever heretofore by me made & declared either by word or by writeing and this to be taken only for my last will & testament and none other. First and principally I commend my soule to Almighty God, and my body to the earth to be buried in such decent and Christian manner as to my Executrix herefter named shall be thought meet and convenient. Item, I give and bequeath to my eldest sonne, William Dent, the summe of eight pounds to be paid within twelve months after my decease, w'ch together with a note for twelve pounds w'ch I lately delivered my said son and w'ch hee formerly received or had secured to him from Zachary Howard of Lofthouse Esq. deceased, the w'ch was due to be paid to me as Executrix to my late husband and whereof I doe hereby discharge him, my said son, maketh upp the summe of twenty pounds. Item, I give & bequeath to my grandchild, John Dent, sonne of the said William Dent, the summe of three pounds, if hee himselfe come to demand the same. Item, I give & bequeath to my sonne Peter Dent the summe of twenty shillings. Item, I give & bequeath to my grandchild Margaret Dent, daughter of the said Peter Dent, the summe of twenty pounds. Item, I give & bequeath to my sonne George Dent the summe of twenty pounds. As alsoe all my interest & title of, in and (illegible) and all (illegible) I have therein by lease from the Lord, hee paying the yearly rent of two shillings reserved to the Lord for the same. Item, I give & bequeath to Sarah, his wife, twenty shillings to buy her a ring. Item, I give & bequeath to my neece Abigail Danby, the summe of fforty shillings. Item, I give & bequeath to my cosens, Elizabeth Dugleby and James Paule, her brother, to each of them tenne shillings. Item, I give & bequeath to James Paule, sonne of John Paule, tenne shillings. Item, I give & bequeath to my cosens, Katherine Clarke and Jane Conne, to each of them, ffive shillings. Item, I give & bequeath to my nephew, George Dent, glover, the summe of tenne shillings. Item, I give & bequeath to my neece, Christiana, sister to the said George Dent, glover, the summe of twenty shillings. Item, I give & bequeath to the poore people of the towne of Gisbrough the summe of tenne pounds. All the rest of my estate of what kind, nature or quality soever the same be as money, plate, houseing, ground, tenements, goods, chattells, bonds, bills, bookes, and whatever else, my debts and legacies being paid and ffunerall expences being discharged, I give and bequeath to my loving daughter, Dorothy Proddy, widdow, who I do make sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament. Ffox George HODGSON Mary Colthirst The Condition of the Obligation is such, that if Dorothy Proddy do well & truly execute & p'form ye last will & testament of Margaret Dent late of Gisbrough in ye Diocese of Yorke dec'd and do pay her debts and legacies so far as her goods will extend and law shall bind her if also she do exhibit into the (illegible) of (illegible) in Yorke, a true and perfect inventary of all and singular the goods, rights, credits, cattels, and chattels of the said deceased, and do make a true and just accompt of the same when she shall be thereunto lawfully called. And moreover (if need require) enter into further Bond with more sufficient sureties, for performance of the promisses as the Judge of the said Court for the time being shall think requisite and needfull. And lastly do save, defend and (illegible) the within named (illegible) and all other officers and ministers (illegible) of the premisses.
