- Theudebert was the son of King Chilperic I of Soissons by one of hisfirst wives. When his father had recently become king, they started acivil war with Chilperic's brother King Sigebert of Soissons. Sigebertwas victorious, marched on Soissons, defeated Theudebert who was incommand of the garrison there, and imprisoned him for one year. AfterKing Charibert of Paris (another of Chilperic's brothers) had died in567, Theudebert invaded Sigebert's lands again and destroyed many cities.In 575, another civil war was started between Chilperic, Sigebert, andGuntram (Chilperic's third brother) in which Theudebert was defeated andkilled.
