Morgan County, AL - Cemeteries
(LAPL)
Minor Cemetery
Location: From Hartselle, take Hwy 31 N. to Hwy 67 (Beltline Rd.). Turn left, go to Hwy 20. Turn left and go to Sewell Rd. Turn rt., go about 1/2 mile to curve in road. Cemetery is north of the road in a cluster of cedar trees. The cemetery is N.E. of the old Minor homeplace which is no longer there.
According to information found at the library, Dr. William T. MINOR purchased the homeplace from a Mr. BURT. Dr. Minor's wife was Fannie Thacker WASHINGTON. She was born at Manassas Junction, VA, and once owned the land on which the great battles were fought in 1861-62. Her father was Henry Augustin WASHINGTON, a first cousin of George WASHINTON. He moved in 1810 to Lexington, KY, and in 1818 to Limestone Co., AL. He is believed to be buried in Limestone Co. Upon his death, his wife, Mildred WASHINGTON, came to live her daughter, Fannie Thacker Wahington MINOR, and died there in 1852, at the age of 95 years.
The cemetery is in bad condition; stones are overturned and broken. Huge, old cedar trees have fallen across some of the stones and some stones could not be turned over to read the inscriptions. There are many unmarked graves and some are marked with fieldstone. T5S R5W Sec. 6 Copied Oct 20, 1982.
